Hi all,

I had a quick look in the RAVE software when I was at home and remember reading viscous fan bits have to be removed (i.e. special tooling) to pull out the radiator and the intercooler.

I've got a day off later in the week and would like to give the ic and rad a good clean out.

Once appropriate hoses have been removed, is it just a case of unbolting and sliding out of the way?

Any suggestions/comments/advice would be greatly appreciated ;)
thanks in advance,
jt

you need to take off the viscous fan otherwise you cant get the cowling off, you will need an extra pair of hands to pull some pipes out of the way when you pull out the cowling. disconnect the pipes (top n bottom) then there are 2 bolts holding the rad in (access from underneath). as for the oil n atf cooler you can get a socket between the black plastic covers on the sides and undo them there is enough room on the pipework to swing them up out of the way.. good luck

Why are you making life hard for yourself taking out radiator. You can flush that in position. No need to remove fan to remove intercooler.

i have removed all radiators< AC, intercooler and rad without touching the fan

( on both diesel and 4.6Gems )

Take the grill out and the slam panel

you can then access the bolts to move them around

Radiator is on dowels and bolts but the other rads bolts to them.

You may get lucky and swing AC rad out of the way, if not you will have to drain it down

certainly one of them has long enough pipes to swing it out of the way

Good luck

Hmmmmmmm...... viscous fan = nightmare (don't have tools for it)

Was just thinking about using gravity for removal of sludge/ming in the IC... *if* I don't have to remove it and can do it all in situ then i'd be much happier with that ;))

Thanks for the luck ;) I think i'll need it ;)

Dad informs me today that when he had the water pump and viscous fan replaced, the chap flushed and cleaned the cooling system, so it's just the IC I want to clean out.

So put a quantity of acetone in the IC and then flush it out with compressed air? water?? (wouldn't have thought of this when using acetone?)

thinking if I can take the IC off then I can quite literally, fill with acetone and bung the ends, shake/agitate it and then pour out?

thanks for your help and comments so far chaps,
Jonathan

I put a new radiator on my p38 dse 3 weeks ago,no need to remove fan ,unclip the cowling and leave it onthe fan, remove grill ,slam panel, unbolt ic and remove, unbolt engine oil cooler leave the pipes on and move to one side, unbolt air con and pull forward leave the pipes connected, unbolt radiator and lift out carefully, one of the ic bolts near the battery tray is a bit fiddley,I had to use a 1/4 drive socket set with universal extension, guess which bolt didnt go back.
