Coffee and cake you say, what services do you require ???
This is where I am so far..
Put a helicoil in the sump drain plug, finished rebuilding the vanos with the Beisan kit which went really well, fitted the febi bilstein valley pan, pushed out the crankshaft front seal using my press kit that i had from my rear suspension rebuild. fitted the timing chains, cam chains and guides, stripped , cleaned and put new o rings on my cam chain tensioners, picked up my powder coated cam covers from my mate at the pub and got ****ers on guinness while i was there and so after that i ain't got clue o_Oo_O

Hi mate, I have replaced the cam chain tensioner guide shoes and the o ring where it connects to the head / oil distribution body. The guides are only a couple of quid from memory

How's the raging throat HC, not overdosing on hot Toddy's i hope? ;)

What is the 'Febi' valley pan you mentioned?
I know what the valley pan is and i know who Febi is.....is it a gasket?
Thought the pan used sealant..

Febi bilstein is a brand and rather than try and seal my old pan the new one is about £30 and comes with the correct sealant applied so all you do is bolt it on.
Throat is not too bad now cheers.
OK, quick question all.
Inside my inlet manifold when i removed the PCV Valve there was quite a lot of oil inside the manifold looking down towards the throttle body which i wouldn't imagine is normal.
i am fitting a new PCV valve but just wondered if the pipe would need changing that runs from the the valve to the throttle body?

That is a little oily and gungy not overly excessive, but does show oil is/was being ingested from somewhere.

If the plastic pipe with a kink in it is not split or damaged, I can see no reason to replace (and its about £30 odd I think)....the new PCV valve should come with a new sealing grommet that fits the end of the pipe.

Thanks Ant,
Does the kinky pipe just pull out from the PCV valve end or do I remove the throttle body.
Man, this project is harsh !!

Oh hello sailor , where the feck have you been or do i not want to know??
Well i have obviously been fraternising with the wrong sort and have copped a dose:oops:

I've obviously missed something by only being able to read this when she who must have attention is asleep, with the blinds closed and the lights dimmed. What's wrong with your throat? Did I pass on my bacterial tonsillitis? If so it serves you right for trying to give SWMHA ideas.

Throats is ok, just got a cold i think, probably run down from doing battle with the RR.:(

Thanks Ant, i took out the pipe and had a look, all seemed ok and the O ring seemed to be doing it's thing but the pipe has a square cutout underneath up by the PCV valve so is just open to the inside of the inlet anyway and I have removed the old seal that was stuck in the end from the old valve.
All seems pretty mucky in there which could be down to a failed PCV valve so when i have 5 I will break it open and see what is going on with the diaphragm (Not that sort Alan)

Another day tomorrow, I think i am all timed ok, i couldn't get continuity on either Vanos unit which probably means they still have some muck stuck in them, I gave them a good blast with brake cleaner before fitting the new seals but an ultrasonic tank would probably be the way to go but I just made sure they were fully retarded when tightening the bolts on the vanos and exhaust cam sprocket.
I should have taken up your offer of your timing kit, the one i have was second hand, the metal was very soft on the cam locking jigs and they were open to a certain amount of interpretation but i think I am there. The jigs have been tapped in place at some point and one of the locking faces has an indent in it but i timed it and then removed the flywheel lock and cam jigs and turned it over by hand and rechecked and then unlocked and retimed it again on bank 2 and then did the same again.
There are also different timing kits for the early M62TUB44 engines and the later and my kit has been modified on the cam sensor ring jig so I am hoping they are ok.

Spent an age today cleaning all the timing covers, alternator and gasket faces and it had always bugged me that I couldn't get he dipstick tube out to make it easier to replace the drivers side cam cover or even find the nut to undo which i achieved quite easily finding the nut and removing it and pulled the tube out and by feck what a shiite to get back in.

Tightening the vanos and exhaust sprocket bolts is a bit of a mare as i only had a short adjustable spanner to hold the cams in place and trying to offset 125 Nm with a small adjustable was painful so when i do this properly I am ordering a long 27 mm spanner or crows foot wrench to go on a breaker bar.

i don't have many phots to add as nothing looks much different for all my effort today and i just want to get the fecker back together so if nothing else I know where all the bits go..:)

You must have not been paying attention 3 weeks ago, it was maintenance charger time and Wammers wished me buen viaje. Been back out to Fuerte, bit of gardening, painting and general TLC to the house and loads of whisky and wine !!!!;):D:D

Sorry mate, must have missed that, can't believe you left without saying good bye. I've been lining up innuendos for you and nothing:(
Well glad you have evaded capture for a while longer anyway mate, oh and I think you may have got a mention in Gold Rovers vibrating shaft thread while you were away..:D:D

I know,I know I read it. Tranny indeed, I'm only borrowing you wife's clothes when you're not wearing them. Tell her I'm sorry they are stretched.;):D:D

She doesn't mind but she said as soon as you are finished with her :eek::eek::eek::eek:, can she have it back...

Well rain has stopped play for now on the RR, i am just hoping that without the plenum in place my engine isn't currently filling up with water.
Still I think i will do the 80 ° mod on my stat while i am waiting

OK OK , i have shut my peni$ in the bonnet, can't say it has improved things entirely and my neighbour said he knew i would fcuk it as soon as he saw me taking it apart, how did he know ???:confused:o_O:D
I have decided against the 80° mod at this stage, I thought that if the poor old girl does start i need to know which fault codes are related to my timing efforts.
I do have an 88° stat that i could bolt straight in but again it doesn't have the electrical connection so that may cause other issues, blah blah, fecking rain:mad:
