hi
I drove my landrover 3.9v8 automatic 300 model to work this morning after crashing into next doors car yesterday and it is misbehaving,
(1) the revs are bouncing around alot
(2) when in drive its juddering and doesnt accelarate properly feels like I have a 7.5 tonne truck on the back of it

any ideas anyone

thanks

I'd check out the rear wheel, hub and prop.

Mate had a Defender hit on nearside front wheel by a moped in Nottingham city centre, moped rider picked the bike up and ****ed off sharpish, Defender left stuck in middle of three-lane road with a broken half-shaft, bent shock, stripped diff teeth and bent propshaft!!! Dunno how it got to the prop ....

I'm just guessing but -

Revs bouncing around alot - is the engine speed actually fluctuating or just the rev counter needle? If just rev counter check connections on alternator and coil. If engine "surging" check the above and also idle air control valve (stepper motor).

Juddering and poor acceleration sounds like a gremlin in the transmission somewhere. Would suggest check for bent half shaft/propshaft.

props are good dont know about half shafts yet

Nope. We think that as the Landy was driving along, maybe 15 to 20 mph the moped hit the wheel, was rolled over by the Landy and the moped got jammed between the wheel and spring/shock, stopping the wheel instantly, breaking the transmission stuff!!!

We think (never traced) the moped rider was riding somewhat illegally 'cos he immediately jumped up apparently unharmed, dragged it out and rode off before Adrian (mate) could even get out. Only faults he could see on it were bust headlight and bent wheel, but it still rode off!!

Could it be an airleak in the fuel system? Maybe the car/fence caught a fuel delivery pipe and dislodged it from a joint/connector and is allowing air in when it's being asked to give more fuel ...

ok worked out that my problem is to do with the engine I am thinking injectors because when I start it up its fine give it some revs and it sounds like a heap of ****:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

may sound stupid but check your earths - seen it so many times after a crash where everythin looks fooked untill you realise theres a loose/broken earth strap.

all earth straps and wires have been checked and all fuel pipes have also been checked by a landrover specislist.

problem is it is still running bad.
what I mean by bad is it is grumbling on tick over and also when you give it some revs it is ideling eraticaly goes 1000 rpm to 400 back to 700 and then it dies and I cant seem to solve the problem any ideas would be much appreciated

thanks

have you checked the air flow sensor , they are pretty sensitive and will cause running probs.

also you say it starts fine and then gets worse , its not a stuck choke is it???
