Hi all!

My P38 was damaged during a repair in an official LR dealer in Cholet, France. The guys kept my Rangie for two months and I got it back bruised. The box is front of the passenger front seat is broken, the front right door alarm is now beeping with a message displayed at the console (door open) while it is closed, and many more pleasurable details...

The guys told me it was normal with a P38, but this is a **** statement, I know they did a **** work, and I wonder what you could do in England when a garage does this kind of thing. In France, I read on forums that it is quite hopeless.

I wrote a letter to Land Rover to tell them they should be removing the dealer from their network, not sure it will have any impact...

I would be speaking to /emailing Land Rover customer service at once to discuss the problem. I'm sure someone had a name for a point of contact at L/R on this forum sometime ago. Create a stink

Dont what ever you do be put off because your Range Rover isnt new. Its something special to you and Le Frechies should of taken better care of it... As above ^^^ get on the Email and kick up stink. Dont except **** comments like the one youve stated.

(Rant over)

LHD or RHD? Not sure what box in front of the passenger seat you are refering too.
LR dealers over here know sweet FA about P38's and dedicated indies just do not seem to exist.
I'm not so far from Cholet and have diagnostics if you are stuck.

Sorry for the terminology! I am French, and we call it boîte à gants, it is basically the big storage where you put the vehicle documentation. They wanted to change something and opened it, then did away with the screws.

When I got it back from the garage (it was closed, and they left the vehicle on the parking) I did not check that box, but once home I opened it for a paper, and it fell on the floor literally.

Now I checked it, and the screws cannot be put back and it seems they smashed the whole stuff. Can't glue it, can't screw it (sorry!! No bad meaning), and it is ruined.

I think some of the mechanics put his weight on it and it just went down...

Whatever, I feel powerless, as my insurance said, hmm, old vehicle, bla bla, and the garage does not answer to my letters.

My wife and I are infuriated as we love this car (I have Range Rovers since I am 17 and we basically married in it).

We don't know what to do, as going legal means nothing nowadays in France.

I'm not French but my wife is:)
Waste of time IMO trying to pursue the garage.
Glove box can be fixed with parts from a casse auto, depending on the colour I may have the parts needed.
Door open messaage may be a connector or the door lock.

You dont contact LR, you find out the dealer network ie stratstone and raise it from there,

If that doesnt help, you should probably then ring LR customer support

It will not help in France I can assure you. LR are also not interested, if the car is more than 5 years old they think you should buy a new one.

I am sure you are right about France, and sadly that seems to be very much the attitude of UK dealers now :( When I bought my 90 in 2008 I approached the main dealer abut some hard to find part. They really made it clear they didn't give a ****, and I have never darkened their door again.

IIRC it was not always like this, back in the eighties the main dealer seemed genuinely interested in my series, even though they knew there was no expectation of huge profits. Seems there has been a sea change in the corporate attitude at LR.

Indeed it is,

But part of an international dealer network,

Independent is obviously different
My experience of various marques is that they don't give a tinkers cuss. Had to use the county court more than once. The only time I've had half good responses to problems was when I had a business fleet of 35 cars, threatening to move my business to another marque always worked.:)

Salut Freder, you have got lucky it seems in that Datatek is not that far from you ! You would be better from forgetting Land Rover Dealers and local garages and making good contact with Datatek, he quite literally is like Yoda when it comes to Range Rovers. With such sources as Datatek, Wammers, SaintV8 as well as other esteemed forum members there is a wealth of technical knowledge to keep a P38 in top working order.

A bientot !
