Crit'air stickers in France...?

Can't find anything listed on the above subject. The stickers relate to the vehicle emissions, a bit like our ULEZ.
I understand that "Crit'air" stickers are required in France, for driving in certain cities.
Failure to display one in the lower right side of the windscreen leads to a hefty fine.
Anyone know what sticker a 1997 4.0SE needs, and the best place to get one?
Something to do with the Euro emissions rating, but detailed info eludes me.
I believe there are lots of rip-off sites charging a lot more than the £4 official price...

1997? Too old to qualify for even a Crit Air 5 sticker which is the one for the most polluting cars.
Actually as posted by Kermit if the build year was actually 1997 as opposed to the year it was registered, you qualify for a Crit Air 3 sticker. That might not be a lot of help as depending on the time of day and the city, only Crit Ait 1 & 2 can enter the restricted zones.

It's chaotic at the moment as different cities have different rules for Crit Air. Some will allow Crit Air 3 cars to enter at any time, others only at certain times of day. My P38's are diesel so we cannot go to Paris to visit my wife's son even though he lives on the outskirts. Paris is supposedly going to allow classic cars unrestricted access so I'm re-registering my 1986 MR2 as a "Voiture de Collection" which may allow us to go to Paris if the need arises.

35 years old is the age that a car can be re-registered as a "Voiture de Collection" and thus might possibly be exempt from the Crit Air restrictions.
The intention is to force everyone into electric cars f(or which there is not enough power generation) in order to keep the car factories busy.

It's 40 years here then, your're exempt from it all.

I want a dark grey sticker - it would mean that I refuse to support child slave labour being used to extract rare minerals from mines in African countries and then shipped out by Wagner Group thugs and sold to electric car manufacturers via Switzerland.

Wow, who knew my petrol motorbike with a crit air 4 sticker in the screen is actually a diesel!

Crit air is to do with emissions. Look at your V5 for co² g/km and cross reference it. If there is no figure then you will probably be crit air 4.

I guess I misled you a bit there, anything below a 3 on petrol cars and you are going nowhere in many French cities. I don't know about motorcyles.

Fair enough.

Though why anyone would want to go to any main french city is incomprehensible.
Much nicerer in small rural villages.
