I can't recall offhand what the official recommendation is, but I re-used the rocker shaft bolts on my TD5 when I replaced the injector seals and washers 2 1/2 years ago and I've had trouble free motoring ever since. Well, I've had the odd propshaft bearing, oil seal and suchlike, but trouble free as far as the rocker shaft is concerned.

Thanks Brown,

on a different note - do you know how to add pictures to the forum ? what I'm doing is clicking the 'mountain' icon....putting in the address of the picture in the box, I get the picture in the preview but when I submit the post, it just shows as this

I use this:
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/picture-posting-for-dummies.47795/

I find Photobucket to be the most Landyzone compatible place to put my pictures and I use their 'IMG code' in my posts and the pictures show up as if by magic.

Just putting my required parts together and I have a quick question...is there a gasket for the 'upper' part of the head that locks down the cam shaft ? or do I just need silicone sealant

My head is ready to be picked up, pressure tested fine and 3thou was skimmed off. It had signs off blowing between cylinders 3 and 4 and into the coolant lines. I'll test the space between the head and valves when I get it back and ask for your opinions on clearances

Cheers

no gasket there, but they recommend some sort of sealant - I think it is a fancy Hylomar one but I don't have the manual to hand. You want to keep the camshaft holes a fairly accurate round shape and a gasket would make that impossible!

Good to hear your head checked out OK.

I have the head back

I've also received my gasket set ( not h/g ) and I'm not sure I know what all the seals and gaskets are for....there are 10 o-rings of the same size that fit the injectors, I only need 5 for the injectors...what are the other 5 for.

Also there is longish gasket that I do not know what it is for....it's a little smaller that the intake and exhaust gaskets but the same sort of shape....any ideas?

Right then....I have the head on and bolted down.

I had to rig up a makeshift system using bendy ladders as there was no way I was going to get it on by just using my hands

Just need to put the rest of it together and see what happens

Once it is all back together, is there any special procedures I need to do with regards oil distribution?

I dunno about oil distribution but if the injectors were fitted in a different order write the codes in order(nr. 1 is in front) on a piece of paper cos you'll have to save them into the ECU memory also make sur you set the clearances well

Right then...day of truth

I'm mostley certain that eveything is where is should be and all that is left is to put anti-freeze in, connect the battery and switch her on
