Does anyone know what % the standard fit meant privacy glass fitted to freeby 1s are?

First one had privacy glass and it looked very smart against the oslo blue paint but the current one doesn't have any fitted.
I'm getting the windows tinted but would like to keep them similar to the factory effort.

I was always under the assumption that all cars come with a % as standard?

Probably wrong though

Hi AJM,

The average car comes with around 20 percent tint as standard, so if you were tinting the front driver / passenger windows, 30 % is the max. Rear or back windows can be limo black, silver, blue, whatever takes your fancy. It will make your insurance invalid if you have an at-fault accident and it can be proved that the tints were the problem, although a few cars I've seen have dark front windows with even darker rears, to make it appear legal. Don't think I've ever heard of Joe Public being pulled for tints, but I have heard of Johnny Boyracer getting in trouble.

Hmm, i always thought you could get privacy glass. The first one had them.

So 30% fronts are the law? If so then i'll go 28% as an err on the side of caution.
Shall get the backs pretty dark to go with the dark blue paintwork and the hardtop.

True, i'll phone the place and ask.

Im trying to give me some leway as i once got stopped by the traffic police and done with a £30 fine. At 2.30 am. With my brother in the car, which was a clio.

Now the irony is, my brother is a police officer, i had just dropped off a 2nd officer from a police night out.. My brother got out his card to show the guy, look im one of you lot.

Nope, still got my fine and told i will get pulled all the time for them. That was the only time in the 3 years i owned that car i got tugged and my brother owned it for 2.5 years before, with no tugs for the windows.

i once had a trial run in a freelander tinted all round and it was in winter at 4.30 pm and Icould hardly see people with it being dark out side never again I would rather have safety

Spoke to a friend who works for a main dealer for landrover,

Standard % is 70 for rears. So that is what im going for. Dont want or need it too dark, just enough to set off the paintwork and look smart. :)

Shall see about the front windows. May go for 25% fronts to keep good side of legal.

If your car has factory tinted windows then any tint film takes them beyond legal tint. Most tint companies will tell you this normally.

Edit- this only applies to front windows as previously mentioned.

An extra 5% on the front windows is hardly worth it! As the proud owner of three points for tinted windows (dangerous parts and accessories) I know! its not worth the risk on the front ones also it's to become an mot item if it isn't already, so you could end up with a failure and out of pocket! You can do what you want with the backs, but tell your insurance company because if it's proved that you didn't see someone because of your tints you'll get yourself in trouble:)
