i have a 1991 range rover classic 3.9 v8 it not getting power to fuel pump every time i put ignition on the fans kick in and its stone cold if i unplug the air mass meter the fans dont kick in but still no petrol is it somthing to with the injection ecu or some sort of sensor please help cheers daz

on the top of the inlet manifold is the ECU sensor. they do play up. about 12 quid from main suppliers. make sure the wires are ok to the connector. but try changing that first.
found the problem the fuel pump relay in order for it to click and work i have to put a eathed wire to one ov the terminals when relay is pluged in it clicks and you can here the pump traced the wire and it goes to the ecu would it hurt to keep this wire on permenatly or can it be rectified cheers daz

might be worth cleaning the wires terminals and the ones on the ecu, failing that put a new piece of wire in its place! if that dont work maybe put a switch in??
i'm sure you should get continuity between the body/earth and the wire/terminal on the ecu, when ignition is on and no continuity when off can you check?
is this related to the immobiliser?

i know they do on the p38(mine) thats why when running on gas you still need to have enough petrol in to keep the pump wet, so if yours has the fuel rail around the plenum then i would think it keeps the pump on to supply continuous pressure to the rail???

tryed it this morning hear the pump on ingnition (with separate eath) try starting and nothing just cranking the 2 fans come on even wen cold wondering if it could be a temp sensor does anyone no if any of the sensors send information to the fuel injection ecu to cut pump power and wot ever else it does. all help welcome cheers daz

Under the passenger seat, check the toggle switch, I can NEVER remember whether its up to run or down to run, but switch it and try.......
Next, standing infront of the car, bonnet open, your right hand side, the space benhind the near-side headlamp and inner wheel arch, under the air-filter.
follow the edge of the radiator down, and find the bottom hose, there should be a temp sensor on it, terminals pointing up; check these are connected, then trace the wires from them, under the plate between inner wing and back of the head-lamp; there's a micro-connector in that region, and it can come loose. When it did on mine, THAT made the air-con fans run constant, could be compound faults at work here.... so worth checking.

Your ECU might be throwing a fit. If checking the stuff already posted doesn't sort it, try getting a substitute ECU to try. Failing that it may be a case of patiently and carefully testing the connections on power and ground to and from the ECU. You might also want to try swapping the main EFI relay for the fuel pump relay, they are identical, this might tell you if you have a dicky relay. DO NOT substitue with an ordinary relay because the main EFI and fuel pump relays have diodes in them to protect the circuits (or something like that)
BTW Teflon, I think down is on for the inertia switch under the passenger seat.

hi all got a ecu today its off a 3.5 disco the man stated on ebay would be ok for 3.9 plugged it in and yeh it started ticks over fine but wen u give it revs it spluters at about 4000 revs and cuts out wont start for a while then it does the same its like its not getting enough petrol or cud it be summat else cheers daz
