Disco 2 Power Steering pumps and pipes - and a grumble

1) Okay, I've finally lost patience with my local garage. Been using them for 4 years now, but increasingly there has been a lack of attention to detail (e.g. steering wheel coming back badly off-centre after new steering box fitted). This has now got to the point where I took the Disco down to them last week with a severe PAS leak and all they did was replace the section of return pipe that had touched (they'd fitted that) the turbo piping with off the shelf pipe and two jubilees. Needless to say, that wasn't even the problem...which they would have seen if they'd spent 5secs looking beyond the pipe. So...last time I go to them, which is a shame.
2) So, looking at the problem hard myself (as I should have done previously), it's clear that the PS pump is leaking badly. Also the pipes to and from the S-Box are corroded to the point of weepage. Looking at Haynes I was chuffed to see that the PS pump replacement is a two spanner job, which I'm happy to tackle myself BUT, the question for you good folk is...what spanner rating is the S-pump to S-box pipe replacement?
Can I replace that piping without moving the radiator (which I dread), or is it straightforward once I've cleared the shields, battery and air box out of the way? I've now ordered the parts so any tips gratefully received.
3) This has all reminded me of the point of why I love Landies...what the point of having a mechano set if you don't play with it yourself. Sometimes, in the heat and pressure of life, I forget that.

I can't help you with your query but I will watch responses with interest.. When I got my first D2 2 years ago I did not have time to work on it.. it was in great condition to be fair.. but this time with my new D2 (also in great condition) it does have many things to sort out.. I have a long list of jobs to do, prioritised by urgency and cost.. Other people may think were're mad to buy a car that has a list of faults, but that is what is so cool about the landrover.. she is my daily ride and my project.. I love getting my hands dirty fixing the next thing on the list..

It's always a shame when people you trust let you down. I used to take my first Disco to a local place with a very enthusiastic and helpful owner. After a few years he joined forces with a classic car restorer and the service level plummeted. I finally went elsewhere when he charged me £500 to replace a fuel pump on my Td5.

It makes it a hell of a lot easier if you remove the radiator, its not that big a job
If I remember correctly, there is a pipe clip on the chassis rail under the rad
Price of the double pipe is a bit of a PITA but hey ho -

I'd had to have the car recovered as it had broken down way from home so was a bit stuck.

That bloke has lost a lot of my custom (and I think has probably now gone out of business).

Oddly enough, a couple of years earlier he had fixed the power steering pipe issue for around £60 which wasn't too bad.

IanCorky...yeah, I've had my head under the bonnet for 20mins this morning mapping out what I'm going to do, and looks like it'll be my first rad removal TBH, and going back to what Nige said...I can't help but feel excited about the whole project now! I got the twin pipe and reservoir to pump pipe for £180 all in from Ribble Valley, so given the savings I'm going to be making I'm almost happy with that (at least it wasn't in the £500 club that the front ACE pipes are members of)

Ian Soady, I think with my garage they've just become too busy, i.e. victims of their own success. It's a fine balance I guess. I've now found a local Inde LR specialist very close so will be trying him out as and when my self-confidence fails (which hopefully won't be directly after this next job!)
