I have a problem with my steering box on my Disco2 TD5, the dealer I bought from gave me a responce that he can look at it but might just fit a seal kit ( if you can ? )

Anyway car cannot go in until wednesday and the fluid is now below minimum and been told to top it up so my question is can you mix PAS fluid (red) with the texaco STC50519 thats currently in there ?

Thanks

you can mix everything but it's not recommended:) , but i suppose that the oil will be drained for the seal kit fitting so doesnt seem a big problem on a short run... though those repair kits are wasted time and money...it will not last enough

Its one of those days, not even 48hrs into ownership and now the fuel pump appears to have packed up........sigh...just got to keep positive

If your a new owner find and down load a copy of rave workshop manual for the d2 . It's a good read for any owner and also helps when going to a dealer or garage if you know a bit more about any problems you have

whit what?... fitting the kit without draining the system...which knowing your skills(from what i've read around here) i believe:) , or making the kit to last a decent time, which i doubt, especially if the shaft is worn...but i admit that this kind of mechanics is above my knowledge:eek: ...i just know that all my friends who tried to fix the box with that kit were dissapointed:rolleyes:

I tow a lot with mine . Horse trailer with 2 large horses and my 26ft caravan . It's great on the motorway . I'm shaw once you get over these 1st one or two probs you will love the d2 . Plus if your good or even just ok with a spanner you will find them very easy to work on . Had mine for 8 years and cant imaging not having one

you have to drain the system ,to remove box to get sector shaft out ,most polish up but you can fit sleeves

this discussion exceeds my knowledge...my point was just that for those who i know the repair kit was not a real cure, and i can't even tell you the reasons...just that the box leaked again after a short time:mad: ..that's all

Yeah I like the fact that most things can be sorted, its just embarrassing that a 20yr old astra we have start and drives spot on and the landy is now parked up outside the house lol

Problem is with the dealer a 'quick fix' that lasts a few weeks might be the easy option although I do believe its just as time comsuming striping it all down.

quite possibly nowadays ,not enough real engineer/mechanics,and not enough time , unless you fix it properly, its pointless ,though it wont be too long before all parts are unrepairable :)

I hope this isnt a common sight lol its now and landranger in middlewich getting a new fuel pump and steering box for £525 :eek: which the garage is footing the bill for :D
