So I purchased my 2001 2.5 DHSE P38 in May. She was in a right mess.

I immediately added a New Radiator, New Diesel Tank. Then I could drive her. Hi/Lo range Work great. Air suspension, works great also.

Since then I have:

Updated the wheels from 16 to 18 Inche
New Grille
Painted Tailgate + New Decal
New Hevac Unit
New Blend Motors (and calibrated them)
Heated Seats Repaired. (Nice touch)
Full Oil Service
New ABS ECU (Wabco D)
Got a Hawkeye diagnostic (very helpful)
Fixed SatNav system
New Battery
Replaced Turbo Hoses
New EGR Solinoid

She is lovely....but I am trying to sort out a power problem.....

She pulls off ok, not quick (well she wouldn't be) and she can cruise at 80 ok. But there are moments when the foot goes down, there is a lot of reluctant reving at about 3000. The MPG is about 22 (24 on long run) which is not as good as I had hoped. When I hit a hill in cruise, the revs will jump up with lots of noise for a fraction and then drop back.

I have reattached the MAP Sensor lead that had dropped off, replaced the MAF sensor (which had bust). I have ordered a new intercooler as the one on her looked totally knackered, all the fins where missing or broken. I have removed a Cold Start Unit, which the car does not need, as it always starts, and starts quickley.

The Hawkeye shows a Crank Speed Sensor fault, which I can not clear. If I unplug the sensor, the car goes nuts!!! So I wonder if in fact it is working!!

There is no smoke out of the back.

Basically, she is becoming a lovely car, but I have one power fault that I can't seem to fix.....

Any advice welcome...

Rachel

PS I have a passenger Outstation Communication Fault also, has anyone had one of those. The Electric controls work fine, but they don't communicated with the BeCM.

If there is a lot of revving with no go, suspect gearbox could be slipping.

Try draining the gearbox fluid and refilling with fresh plus some Lucas Transmission fix, this may help lube up the gearbox valves which could be sticking slightly casuing flaring in gear changes.

Also draining the fluid will give you an indication on the condition of the box.

Whilst the diesel won't set the world alight with pace, they should be very usable, mine was, so if it really is struggling, maybe using a Nanocom or faultmate to check the timing modulation wouldn't go a miss (sadly the Hawkeye can't check this)....

Thanks for your help both. I will have another go at the gearbox oil. Was done in May, but will flush it through and do again.

The Crank sensor plug has two wires but strangely the lead which someone cut and rejoined at some point, has the same two wires but has a silver earth wire, that goes no where, just hangs before the join, any idea where that should go? This may be causing the Crank Sensor Fault? I

Performance sounds normal to me.
If you had decent diagnostics, you should be able to look at live data to see if the CPS is functioning correctly.
You could try Lucas Transmission fix in the gearbox.
