The Halfords power pack i have is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike so I'm woindering what you guys use?

What sort of heavy duty packs have people successfully used on these big engines. What spec is a minimum. Looked at some Clarke/Draper and Ring ones on ebay but not much choice.
 
I just use an 096 Battery (600 ish amps) and a set of jump leads made from 4 x 250 amp welding clamps and 300 amp welding cable, much better than the ****e you get from Halfrauds, etc. Even with a battery hard down this gets things going on the first turn of the key
 
Strangely enough I got one from Wickes diy of all places! I got it home charged it up and for a test I tried to start my little grey Fergie tractor, well what a waste of time that was :-( then I had a closer look at it and the little charger that it came with was only 9 volts :-/ so I got my normal garage charger out and gave it a days worth of juice and hey presto it works like a charm...
Have a look at yours to see what voltage yours is or try using a different charger.
 
Clarke 4000 is a heavy duty power pack which works with big engined petrols and diesels - I've tried a good few of these starter packs over the years, albeit I avoided using them on my P38 as I wasn't keen on frying the BECM....... But for larger cars the Clarke 4000 is a reasonable product and Machine Mart often have them on a special offer, under £100.
 
ive got a snap on one which ive used to jump start trucks an had no problems with it brought a few different ones an they all turned out to be crap an rather large the snap on one is smaller an more powerful well worth the money an havin life time warrenty is bonus too
 
I just keep a 1000cca battery and jump leads handy, starts just about anything, oh and I have an ex RAC Transit with a heavy duty double battery installation and a socket on the front into which I can plug a set of extra long jump leads.

Might be a tad difficult carrying a Tran**** as battery back-up! :D:D:D
 
I have a ring power pack with 40ah batteries that i bought from halford and charged it up for 24 hr as the manual states and then when i first tried it out the batteries were flat and i had to get a jump start from someone else.
I then charged it up again and the light said it was fully charged but checked a day later and it was only 75% charged.
E mailed ring and told them the problem and they said it sounded like the batteries were dud and take it back to halfords where i bought it The only problem with that im in turkey and wont be back in the uk untill warrenty is out.
I have managed to keep it charged up enough to start car if i run it on the charger every day.
it seems to have enough power to start my DSE when charged but not to crank it over for very long
 
My old man has a 4.2TD land cruiser that has a intermittent power drain and he got fed up with getting stranded, so he bought a Sealy road start RS103 with 3200 peak amps and that starts his 4.2TD when the weather is freezing and his twin batteries are that dead his interior lights dont come on, and he has been using for about the last 6 months at least 2 or 3 times a week and its still starts his truck no problem. He has looked into the problem but every time an auto electrician comes out it's not draining the batteries. Not very Jap like at all. I think it must have caught something off my RRC when I parked next to it.:D
 
Hi got a Powerstation PS5000EU from eblag about a year ago, been really good so far although never needed it to start the Rangie but have used it to start a couple of mates motors and to pump up the tyres. Previous was a Clarke which lasted about 4 years.
