My P38 4.0 2001 model starts perfectly but suffers a serious power loss when cold.
I live on a hill, when I set off down hill I don't really notice it. When I set off uphill it really struggles to the point where it doesn't move. It doesn't stall but won't rev up to get the power needed. It eventually stutters up the hill and when I get to next hill it's ok.
I may be wrong but it also seems to take a bit longer to get warm.
There is no overheating or anything.
I recently changed exhaust manifold and put on a new MAF sensor which cured a stalling problem.
I have a fault mate which shows no faults.
Struggling with this. All help appreciated.
Cheers.

Use your faultmate to see what the ECU thinks the coolant temp is when cold, if the sensor is knackered then you might not be getting cold start fuel enrichment. With modern FI systems most cars wll start without fuel enrichment but they won't like being put under load.

Hi,
Where on Faultmate can I find coolant temperature setting?
Only ref to temp I can find is engine temperature under transmission module..
Cheers

Still not got to coolant temp, awaiting advice from Blackbox.

Cleaned the Idle Air Control - it was a bit sticky and it does seem a lot better, cheers.

Still seems slower to warm up so need to persevere with coolant temp reading.

Cheers

It doesn't come up as a temperature, but as a number, starts at 255 for cold and goes towards zero as it heats up if I remember correctly.
