The mirrors open and fold but judder a bit in doing so,I don't know the mechanism of them as to wether you can lubricate them or not, what is the best way to expose the mechanism ? does the complete mirror have to be taken off or can the glass be taken out to expose something,I have a feeling somthing needs to be done before somthing either breaks or seizes up,thanks for any help.

by taking the mirror off you will see the motor I bet there is some dirt got in give it a spray with some lubrication spray like silicone spray.

Thanks teddwood it seems quite a job to get the mirror of the door I am not to good at replacing trim I never seem to get it back right,I was rather hoping I could perhaps ease the glass of and get the spray in that way.

The mirrors come off easy enough. However they do judder a bit. Both sides juddering in unison isn't unheard of. It's possible to lubricate the mechanism but the mirror does require removing first.

behind the glass itself .. be nothing except a plastic holding frame 'n a couple of wires for the heating element
( i've just had to replace the glass in my nearside one ) ..
mine judder a bit .. have always done so .. ( bought at 37k m .. now at 109k m )

(edited to add) if i were to add lubrication .. think i'd use the 'dry ptf' spray
as a liquid type might attract dirt and end up causing 'issues' ..
just a theory .. maybe the silicone spray might not be prone to that .. i don't know for sure

yesterday i sprayed some of this:
http://www.3-in-one.co.uk/products/dry-lubricant-with-ptfe
all around inside the pivot point on the folding mirror
( i.e. where the static and moving parts meet )
seemed to improve smoothness of operation

it does leave a white residue .. not so hard to clean off most of it ..
or to 'mask' with some trim 'blackening' application
( yet to inspect if it has washed off with rain )
