poor handbrake

when parking facing downwards on a hill, when i take my foot off the brake pedal after applying the handbrake the car lurches forward what seems like quite a distance, probably a good 6".

The handbrake in the car feels absolutely fine, what can be causing this and how can i sort it? cheers.

it has been on all my landies. I spose it depends how much slack there is between the handbrake and the rear wheels.

makes sense, maybe brand new there would be little and then obviously over time (and wear) it slackens up.

It's perfectly normal to get a bit of movement on the handbrake as it works on the transmission not the rear wheels, like on most cars.

It is only a problem when they keep on rolling like mine does-that is till I thump it in gear
