Thinking about a high ratio transfer myself.......cheaper than an O/D refurb.

You need a definitive diagnosis of whats wrong with yours 1st really but it's a lot quicker to swap boxes than to pull one apart, find out what needs replacing, order the parts, put it back together and re-fit.

Sorry for your troubles mate :(

Blue beasty.

If I manage to get one and if I get the box sorted I will let you have a drive.

Cheers for the offer James. I would naturally sort you out in kind or payment.

I could drive/recover her upto yours if you could honestly help out.

Regards

Greg

ive rebuilt a lot of series gear boxes, fixing it wouldnt be an issue ,the only issue may be parts and holiday availibilty

Hi there fanatic.

I bought her from a private seller. £1950. I am genuinely happy with her apart from the colour, the seats oh and the gearbox worry!!!

Yes I have breakdown cover however I would rather gamble trying to get her at least on the ferry then recover from Denmark into hamburg, if that would be the case.

I would prefer to get all the work done here. I'm upset as all my tools are in Hamburg hence having to lean on somebody or pay stealer rates!

Regards

Greg

Your find this forum doesn't suffer fools gladly, but when someone is out of luck and a genuine situation- then if it is possible generally every effort is made.

It would seem that depending on your location currently Ashcrofts may be more convenient.

That said if James says he has parts in stock, or can get them and will build you a box- getting you there shouldn't be impossible (but you would have to pay the fuel)

I wonder if we could LZIR?

PITA really Ijust picked up 2 old series gearboxes sitting in my back garden as spares for my trialer. would I swap one and drive to Germany? probably not but if yours completly dies and you need a box shout maybe you can inspect before fitting.

I know my bro has a brand new genuine LR New never fitted from new 1 ton box but I doubt he would sell (I'll ask) Plus its a lower ratio than std so not what you want really.

Hi there James.

Thank you kindly for your great offer.

One assumes it is best to get it up to yours then strip it and attempt to get spares?

If you do have the time and IF the spares are available how long do you believe turn around would be?

Regards

Greg

Blimey at this rate I will be having a beer with you tomorrow night!

Lol Tomorrow I'm building an exhaust come rain or shine on my little 80 inch offroader. i'll be suited up and gaffer taped so im waterproof (No its not a fettish ep90 is the fettish) Lol If you need any s/h series parts shout we have a whole 88 inch to sell break and god knows how many other bits. Last count the shed has 13 series diffs. Sigh....

ive plenty of time at the moment ,2 or 3 days work ,getting it in bits and knowing whats needed can be guarrenteed ,parts availability depends on others and availability

Hi fanatic.

I have browsed these forums for quite some time before registering. Finally last week I took the plunge on my 39year old series three. I absolutely love her and I really enjoy this forum.

I have already bought items from e classified section on this forum and I was hoping to purchase a set of wheels that one of the forum members has up for sale.

I was bought up by my grandmother and the past two weeks have been a glaze.

My wife and I drove over in a car that we are now selling several Sunday's ago. We had only intended to stay in the UK for four days. My wife had to fly back and I was fortunate to have the time to stay at NANs side. Unfortunately I had time to kill on these forums and the autotrader hence buying my little pain in the bum. (which is now turning into a never ending money project pit).

Oh by the way...

My wife does not know I have bought this little badger yet!

Okay well I hope the wife has a sense of humour, depending on what you choose to do we may be able to sort out some way of you getting to James if that's what you choose

Hi James.

If we could touch base please and give me an approx for what you would charge.

I could attempt to get her to yours, then I could get the train back to collect the spares and drive them back up.

I could stay in a b&b for the duration and lend a hand. I make a mean cup of tea and I am competent with removing wheels!

Fanatic thank you kindly.

I am absolutely amazed with the support from everybody.

My truck is in Alcester.

Perhaps for those that lend a hand I could host you guys in Hamburg. An amazing place!

you must have a very understanding wife!

Jai thank you for the gearbox offer. Mi may have to take a few other items off your hands but I will worry about that another day!

As for my wife....

Hmmmmm...

The whole reason for buying this truck was to offset my advertisement business expenditure (vehicle sign writing) and save myself approx seven thousand pounds. This figure is rapidly dissolving!!

I am setting up an English gardening company. Hence an iconic landrover!

Greg

She is a new wife so when and if I get the truck back to Hamburg we will all find out if she has a sense of humour or not.

Oh point to note...

My wife is German. Ze Germans are not renowned for their sense of humour. I may actually be back over here quicker than anticipated!

Well good luck Greg!!

My bro was a Brit Mech on a Yank base in Germany I think around the south East I visited him a few times and travelled around Germany flying model rc planes in neustrelitz, stadsteinach (probably spelt wrong) and travelled through many times en route to Czech flying and holidaying in Croatia. I like Germany alot!!

Good luck Fella like I say anything you need just shout I have sent s/h spares spares to a guy in Rechlin before now so no probs.
