Hi All

Having damaged piston number 3 on my V8 due to a piece of metal finding its way through that cylinder. I have now removed the piston and require a new piston.

How do i identify what size of piston I need, will there be a reference number on the piston or do I need to measure the piston with a micrometer?

How do i get the pin out of the con rod to fit it to the new piston? Do i need the landrover tool referred to in RAVE or is there another method? I did try forcing it with a G-clamp and a scoket, but the pin did not move and I broke the G-clamp

Thanks

Andy

it will be stamped on the other pistons and yes you need to measure bore exactly and piton at bottom of skirt 90 degrees to gudgeon pin as thats the widest diameter ,pistons are graded but per block so they will all be the same, warm piston and rod in oven or hot water to fit ,dont try to use alot of force refitting as piston will get damaged ,old pin can be drifted out as you wont need it,

Thanks James. I have measured the bore and it is 94.1mm. This corresponds to the grade A piston according to Rave, however my local landrover stealer says the same part is listed for grade A & B pistons.

Is this correct that there would only be one size of piston? I assume that you cannot get oversize pistons for the 4.6 engine as it already bored out to its limit?
