I have not posted for a while but do keep reading as this forum is a wealth of knowledge, I have been reading up on refurbing the High Pressure Pump on a TD4 and decided to give it a try, I have removed the pump with the help of the forum and have started stripping the pump.

I am still not certain which way round the tiny metal gasket goes in the head as mine dropped out during disassembly and fell on the kitchen roll but I have no Idea if it turned over as it fell, so a definitive answer to that would be helpful

I decided to start by removing the head with the obvious leak, now it is apart and while cleaning up to fit the new gaskets and O rings I noticed that when the small piston that carries a O ring and a O ring retainer at either end was removed, one end had damaged O ring and Retainer and when the piston its self was examined I found a depression (scratch) in the part that the O ring and retainer push over on the same end where the damaged parts were located (in the Head).

Does anyone know a supplier I could go to to replace this part, I have tried the Interweb but nothing comes to light, I am assuming that the mark on the piston has caused the damage.

Photo attached is of the offending item

As far as I know, no internal parts are available for the pumps. Unfortunately your will need another one, either second hand to repair, or a reconditioned replacement.

Thanks for the reply that is what I was afraid of, I can only hope that someone on here knows of a HP pump I can rebuild or has one in bits they would let go to a new home

Hi all

Update on this nightmare, due to lack of funds I very carefully cleaned and smoothed the damage on the metal Piston part pictured in the photograph earlier in this thread as best I could and rebuilt the pump following the instructions from the many posts on this subject on the forum. with a kit and also a new gasket for the pump where it mounts to the engine.

I was, I must admit amazed that upon re-assembly and re-fitting that the car started and ran, however on the test drive after the repair I was caught in an absolute deluge (cant remember rain like it) and the car started misfiring and virtually all the dash lights came on, lights dimmed wipers slowed down heater blower stopped and I only just made it home.

I will start a new thread to ask advice on how to interpret the subsequent issues. the car now it has dried out will start with the battery charged but I assume there is no output from the alternator as with a meter across the battery it starts at 12.8v and starts discharging immediately the engine is running, the strange thing is that the charging light on the dash lights before the car is started and goes out with the engine running but battery continues to discharge, it discharges even more quickly if load is increased IE: (Lights/heater/radio switched on).

Could it be that the deep water I ended up driving through could have wrecked the alternator or is there a fusible link somewhere that could be replaced.
