right after really scraping the cash up together, i was determined to do some decent welding with a non-box mover, i saw an ad in the classifieds paper for a muerex miget 150 amp welder, i had a butchers on 'tinternet about them, and they looked like they could do the business, so i went up today to get it.

the guy owns a workshop in brissol, when i got there he was chuffed as the phone had been ringing all morning about it, and thought i might have been a no show.

the bottle he sold me with it is colossal, looks a full size one,and filled right up with argon/CO2 mix, i briefly tested it and it seemed ok, everything was doing what it should, and compared with the SIP one i already had, it is a different ballgame.

although it's a nice bit of kit, it's not as portable as i would like, i was wondering if any gas suppliers would swap over the full size bottle on the next fillup for a smaller one, and as i have my own bottle, would this incur rental when i do go to fill up again, are they going to say that they won't fill the one i have as it's not theirs.

i am new to all this bottle stuff as i used to use the disposables on the SIP welder i have, so some good advice would be welcome please

very chuffed with the welder though :D

thanks

whos name is on the bottle BOC or similar odd that the guy let you have it as well cos they cost about 65 a year to rent and you will need contract to get it exchanged, perhaps werent his to give away:)

If you know anyone who owns/manages a pub use the Co2 they use and ditch the big bottle as there are not mobile and it hurts when you drop it on yourself, as for the argon mix(i assume its a mig your talking about) its only woth it for thin sheet, you can get the same results with co2 as long as you direction and angle is correct when you weld

cheers for that, yes it's mig, i wouldn't want to waste the gas as it's full so i'll use it then get a smaller CO2 type i think
