First time i've even driven a 4x4,landy or anything this big and im liking it so far :D

The car is very clean,i was looking at loads and waiting for one to come up nearby and put a deposit on it when i went to look at it.

Of course with a car this age its not going to be perfect and until i start looking under all the carpet and plastic sill cover i wont no for sure but so far it looks rot free.

It had its mot today and passed with no advisories which i thought was awesome till i got home and noticed the back light don't come on with the main lights so what else have they "missed".

Other than that the two rear electric windows don't work and the ns rear door lock "drops" when open so you can't always open it from the outside.

First of all i need to fix the lights, then the door lock and windows, are these common faults with d1's?

Once that's done ill be doing some mods, nothing too extreme.Ive ordered a front winch bumper, decat pipe and an egr blanking kit.

I want a +2" suspension kit,was looking at the terrafirma ones.Gonna get a cb for when im out with my mate, some half decent all terrain tyres and a snorkel.

Another i need is 3x3 rear seat belts,i know the d2 seats are not a straight swap, did any d1's come with 3x3 belts? If not what are my other options?

Ill finish with some pics :)

obliviously check bulbs first, then wiring loom with a multimeter for the lights.

rear windows is common, its the ecu for the windows behind the glove box usually a dry and cracked solder joint.

door lock dropping could be the spring in the mechanism or just a badly adjusted/loose lock unit, whip the door card off and see.

there are plenty of decent lift kits out there cheaper than the terrafirma ones, i have heard bad things about the T/F dampers but others swear by them.

and finally welcome to the mad house :welcome:

welcome where abouts are you as I am a newish owner of my 200tdi disco and so we might be able to meet for some lanes or maintenance.

Looks like it's quite a tidy truck hope you have fun with it

Seatbelts need a solid mount. It's no good putting a diagonal over the seatback from the floor mounting and I don't think the standard D1 rears are strong enough to take a shoulder strap from the top.

If you don't need the loadspace, you could weld a bar across near the top of the seatback as a suitable mounting point (provided it's braced to appropriately strong sections of the shell and/or chassis). Consult somewhere that preps race or rally cars.

And congratulations. It's certainly a lot tidier looking than mine. And mine still runs.

I'm from Blackpool and yes its a safari model, what was different about the safari model, just the colour and abar/spot lights?

I need the load space as i will have bikes in the back when i go downhilling.I remember seeing a disco 1 for sale with td5 seats,no idea how much work is involved.Might just buy a cheap set on ebay and see how it goes.

My decat pipe came today which was nice, got an egr blanking kjt and winch bumper on order too.

Ill keep this thread updated as i go :)

Im going to spend a day going over it and fitting all the bits ive bought,i will need to find the paint code as i can see rust on the sills so it will need treating and painting.

think it's on the slam, but it will have faded by now, so you mightn't get a colour match

Chop the sills out and weld in some box section.
And welcome:)

The Safari had a few extras, Their own design alloy wheels, Air con, Soft A bar and spots, rear door ladder, A step for getting in the back, and yes they were all green, i have one myself only done 89,000 miles too, they only made 1100 of em too lol so quite rare, where are you from ?

Had a quick look at the rear light clusters, all the bulbs work, all the wires are delivering the volts but only the brake lights work when you press the brakes.

I wiggled the connector and the o/s cluster worked for a little while then stopped. On the n/s cluster i had to remove the plastic bit from the cluster and then plug the connector in with out it and then all the lights were on all the time.

What should i try next?

I have the rear lights without the orange indicator, they are all red apart from the reverse lense.

I have double filament bulbs too,the passed its mot the day I bght it but I've been that busy today is the first chance I've had to look at it and it was dark lol

My insurance policy starts tomorrow and I need to drive at night so I need to get it sorted tomorrow so could do with some clues :)

So I've been googling and found an thread on another forum,am I right in saying that when my main beam is on only the back lights in the bumper will be on and the clusters are only for reversing and pedal brakes?

Hi there Flatline - re the rear seatbelts, they ALL come with 3x3 seatbelts.

The 2 outer ones are lap and shoulder type, the middle one is lap only. Have a good look, it'll be there.

If you really want a centre lap and shoulder belt, that will be VERY difficult to obtain as they were never available on D1 and I can't remember if D2 had them either.

I thought 3x3 meant 3 points on all 3 searbelts?

At least now i know i will need seats from a different model or even vehicle eeek

Cheers for the reply :)
