No need to apologise ant! Not your fault, your write up said it was tight and had to be gentle. I knew I needed to be careful, but while I was concentrating on wiggling past the lip on the pump I totally forgot about the level sender.

Not sue if mine had gone brittle though as I didn't think I put much pressure on it
Possible, and yes it is fairly delicate...still feel like I should apologise...feel for you with a £400 bill :(

Well.... I'm not looking at it as £400, just £240 more than iv already spent, and the guy I got the pump off is letting me return it for a refund no probs

ok

had to get it recovered to a place near Dartford called Dakar cars ltd birchwood road.

I told them its the fuel pump and they spent 1 hour labour diagnosing it and apartently yes its the pump.

I said hang on I told you that. he said he had to check that it had to hold power or constant power. I told him just check the relay and fuse and put test in the relay and to perminnet feed the red cable beside it. he argued with me saying now he had to diagnose the constant power it supplies as some time they give up.

Something tells me hes BS'ing me and he has told me it will cost £769.99

Well the bloke I spoke to yesterday said it would take 1.4 hours ;labour plus pump part at approx. 350 for pump assaembley as he said he cant just replace the pump ... me thinks more BS. that even does not add up to £769 that £419 labour

Is he talking BS

anyone ?

Cheers

Rich

If it sounds like BS and it smells like BS then it most probably is BS

Where is he getting a pump for £350?? not possible i searched and searched best i got was £400, then hes going to put his little bit on that too.

If he can do i full fuel pump change in 1.4 hours then he must have a whole team of midgets doing the work, as the is hardly enough room to get 1 person in!
And 1 person cannot strip the interior out a rangie, replace the pump and put it all back together again that quick

well presume down the inspection holes either side under back seat.

Carpet is already up and lids untighten of the holes

so maybe its no BS after all 769 so 4nn then his bit nnn then vat so maybe that is the price

he got the part from landrover apparently unless hes making more with another co

That sounds more realistic

The pump is part of an assembly...officially you cannot replace the pump as LR dont stock it...just the whole assembly at £400 as Deasy says....

I researched and found you can actualy take the assembly apart and replace the pump with an X5 pump....

Saved a butt load.....I did it on my own and take me a few hours, but I was taking photos for my how to and also doing something that technically cant be done (but can)....

Read my How To and take a view on if his costs are acceptable once you can see the process.

Just a thought I read up on this before and one of the things I picked up on was keeping your pump submerged in fuel all the time IE keep your tank above 1/4 tank.

This is what I have told the wife to fill up when its the quarter to prevent the pumps drying out !

I thought the price I paid was good considering I didn't even do nothing ,they collected, fixed it, had my keys & paid job done + if they bend it they mend it,pay cheap pay twice, same as when I had a recon autobox fitted i had a niggle, was no probs & was fitted with another full recon 3000 miles later at no extra cost:D so im actually on my 3rd gearbox at 102000:eek:

heads up boys it could have been worse when I collected mine someone was having new turbos fitted to there disco:eek:wouldnt fancy that bill
