once it was fitted it wouldn't engage gear - i was away working so had to take his and my ol mans word for it, suspect the pressure plate was faulty?? I'm no clutch expert though.

Dont think ...... could be the clutch fork not aligned or clutch hydraulics. Really hard to have a virgin pressure plate as faulty, Insulation mistake yes. Good luck on refund. What will happen is they will test it and if good you have a spare

Are you sure your mate didn't put the friction plate in back to front? It tends to stop them from disengaging, and you can't get gears:)

soloby_rob... i trust his workmanship and I have an incy wincy feeling I said he was a qualified mechanic not an eggspurt mechanic ;)

Doesn't mean hes knows everything about everything though. Clutches are quite rare to be faulty out the box but they are quite easy to fit wrong. Landrovers are a different beast to most road cars and they have a habit of throwing up a few odd issues, was the clutch fork replaced? This is a common fault to go, the slave rod is also a bugger to set up and the bearing has got a habit of turning on the shaft and not engaging with the fork.

A back to front plate would show wear on the springs, also you can still get gears but will get a slight grating noise when bringing the clutch up (yes im talking from experience, top tip, dont fit clutches late at night when you have been having a bad day!)

jon, i'm not saying he knows everything (although he is pretty good at his job imo!) the slave cylinder/rod/clutch fork were all replaced too.

we'll just have to see what the outcome is when I ring them this afternoon.

I didnt mean to suggest that was what you was saying, I was just saying that could be what you was saying although your not saying that so that doesn't need to be said :confused:;)

If you had the other bits replaced then that should take tat out the equations, hopefully he has done everything properly and checked through other parts, just from exerience clutchs can be a pain on LR's!

Anyway, keep on at paddocks to chase the claim (I would leave it 7 days to allow delivery and inspection), good luck with it

Usually yes but not always! Some times they won't even release the slightest bit so virtually no marks at all! It varies depending on the vehicle. I don't know how a land rover would behave but it's an easy mistake for even the most experienced mechanic!

after rather random weekend doing a last minute job (looking after the monster rig/girls at santa pod :p) I got home this morning to find a reciept saying i've been refunded by paddocks.... saved that phone call I suppose which gives me more time to investigate a suspected H/G failure :( never bloody ending with these landy's isn't it!!!

I am a bit worried now as I have just placed an order with them for a little over £400. As soon as I had done it I thought I should have searched on here first. Oh well fingers crossed it all arrives and fits!

you'll be fine... don't let one person's bad experience put you off, just read the whole thread, loads and loads of people swearing by them.

All my stuff arrived the next day, great service and very pleased with all of the items.
