My 95 p38 4.0 has been off the road since mot fail in october. i now have the money to get the bits done as time wont allow me to do it myself. the battery has gone flat, my own fault as didnt disconnect it. connected jump leads uo to my van as needed some power to get in the boot for spanners. The alarm sounded as soon as got power in battery, which i was expecting, but the dash display shows key code lockout. is this just down to lack of power in the ecu's? please help me get the old boy started as i got drop it off at garage in morning and i miss my v8. fed up with doing everything with a moth eaten transit

You need to input the key code. Details in the handbook or if you don't have that rangerovers.net has a 'how to' write up. I've always followed that one and its never failed on my P38.

Key code lockout lasts for about 20-30 minutes and then should clear if you leave the truck alone. You then have to enter the key code which you hopefully have either on a small sticker in the glove box or thoughtfully written in your handbook by a previous owner? Put the key into the door lock, turn four times to the back of the truck, then enter the code by turning the key first X times to the front, X times to the back, then to the front and back again the corresponding number (of your code) and finally once to the front. This should unlock the truck and allow your to start her. You will need to reset the key afterwards too, and your windows!

It was mentioned on here that this first stage of 4 turns to the LOCK position is dependant on model year.....trouble is I can't remember when the change over was or even if that is the case.....sorry!!

Mines a 95 and it works on that, don't know about the changeover I'm afraid

I know the code and how to do it. have no choice sometimes as remote tempermental. but was bit concerned as it came up with it on dash as soom as it got power in the battery. left jump leads connected and after a while the display went back to normal. so i assume that it was caused by low voltage. battery now on charge in my dining room so hopefully will be able get it up garage in morning

Can't understand why they moan, first to ask for a lift if the weather is crap. Also if its in the dining room you can keep an eye on it without going out and let them benifit from your company.
Davie:D:D

The only reason it in dining room is i got my christmas lights plugged into the porch. I even said i might let her take it to work again one day.
Anyway battery says fully charged so going drink my tea and get down my dads pop it on and hopefully get it running to charge the eas up

After having battery on charge over night put it on this morning and all was well. so must have just been low voltage causing the problem. he now sitting in the car park at the garage to have brake pipes replaced and a fresh mot. hopefully get some road rent during the week and can get away from my transit and its problems, or my wenches corsa at weekends
