p38 hunting

anyone had a problem with p38 auto deisel, when i start from cold go to put into r or d and engine stalls, works ok arfter a couple of times but revs going up and down when on tick over, does this when engine up to temp at traffic lights etc but doesant cut out, can anyone help please

Crank position sensor or number four injector check and clean plug contacts. Also try cleaning the contacts to the multi plug into the FIP. If that does not help get codes read.

The FIP connector is a large round one under the inlet manifold, just about possible to undo it without removing the manifold unless you have very big hands. You need to twist the outer ring to release it.

Or you need to be double jointed or able to stand on your head on top of the air filter.
