p38 feels like driving with handbrake on

hi i have had a p38 for a whle now and just registered on here

the fault is

it feels like im driving with hand brake on even when the handbrake is released and all brakes are free

its a 2.5 bmw engine v reg manual gearbox

can anybody point in right direction

someone mentioned tranfer box to me at work

im a engineer so im quite clued up on mechanical issues but this is baffling me

as strange as it sounds have you checked the handbrake to see if it is sticking? I had an issue with mine where the handbrake stuck so firmly it was impossible to pull away

+1 to that jack the back up put it in neutral and try turn rear wheels should give you an indication

Possible MAP pipe split or loose....

Without this attached it will feel gutless and struggle to rev past 3000....

Map as in mass air pipe yes I have jacked up and all free as a bird

depends on actual feeling your getting whilst driving,but it would be worth jacking up one front wheel with box in neutral and seeing if viscous coupling is seized

MAP as in Manifold Air Pressure...

This little gizmo measures the Turbo boost pressure in the intake manifold and supplies information to the Engine ECU for fueling information.

There should be a small pipe from under the manifold around cylinder No.5 to a small box of tricks mounted on the Fuel Filter (the MAP sensor)...

Oftentimes this little pipe gets split or knocked off with loss of power effects!
