My P38DES usually runs a little cold, only just above the 'Blue'. That changes in traffic when it usually runs hot.

The other day i was driving along at about 50MPH and noticed the temperature gage starting to move to 'red' quite quickly. This never normally happens while driving at 50MPH. In a matter of Mins the temp warning light came on and i stopped immediately.

Upon inspection i noticed that all the rubber pipes were still fitted correctly but a metal pipe, about 4 inches long and about inch and a half diameter had popped out of the front left hand side of the cylinder head. this had caused the coolant leek.

It has been in the garage now for 2 days and the mechanic can not find the part in question. he has spoken to LR and they do not seem to sell the part separate, it comes with a new head, v expensive!

Does anyone have ant info on this? The part in question is about 4 inches long and about inch and a half diameter had popped out of the front left hand side of the cylinder head. It does not screw into the head it seems to be held in place by friction?

Also why might this have popped off rather than a rubber hose? I'm almost stuck with what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Lewis

These are usually an interferance fit in head. Hole in head is same diameter as OD of tube. Tube is frozen, head is heated then tube is pressed in. Very unusual for them to come out. Not unknown, but very very unusual. If your mechanic is worth his salt he should be able to sort something out for you.

Thank you everyone for your help on this and quick responses. The mechanic has cleaned the pipe and the hole in the cylinder head and hit the pipe back in with a product called JD WELD (I think that was what it was called, it was definitely J 'something' Weld!)

Would anyone be able to estimate how long this should hold? I know the answer might be 'how long is a peace of string' but any estimates, however broad, would be welcome!

Thank you all once again.

That would be JB Weld epoxy resin. Should never come out.

People use the phrase 'How long is a piece of string' to indicate a lack of answer or to try and sound as if it is an unknown quantity....

Reply with the following:

'Two times Half it's Length'

Now you have given them their answer, stand there and ask them to now answer your original question with a similarly definitive and quite correct answer.....:D
