P38 auto box problems.

Problems getting worse, hi all, got advice before on auto box having probs, when in reverse iv got no drive unless i give it a big hearty rev, even then it only moves slightly, was advised to change oil an filter, changed them, (filled the box up to level using dipstick hole cos had to get car off ramp, was this ok), still no reverse, told maybe clutch pack, managed to get a 2nd hand gearbox but its not fitted yet but noticed that in drive its now not changing up to 4th, is there a link maybe or just my life story.

what colour was oil you drained out

Did you re-fill it correctly, box cold, engine idling, move through all gear positions?

The oil was kinda brownish, no swarf stuck to the magnet, fitted new filter too, topped it up with it idling and went thru the gears, theres no warnings or messages on the dash.

I had exactly the same problem, changed oil and filter. My box was 1.5 litres short of fluid, filled it up ( with the engine running ) and so far.........
Going to do hoses and cooler in the near future, oil has to be going somewhere !

Is it best to fillbox thru level plug or thru dipstick tube, or is it just the same.

If you have a dipstick tube, use that.
