Hi I have a RR P38. It has developed an ALARM FAULT MSG, I put the key in and it says ALARM TRIGGERED, BONNET.(Have slammed bonnet, no difference) I can turn the key and it starts, no problem. During the night the alarms kept sounding and in the morning it would not unlock as the battery was too low. We jump started it and it fired up first time. I reset the windows and the sunroof. Next day. Flat again! As I am but a 'mere female' or so the mechanic seems to think. I took it to a Landrover/4x4 garage (not main dealer).
They fitted a new Driver side lock assembly. Took the car home, next day same, could unlock it with the key first time, same FAULT showing, but could not lock it on the fob. Overnight, alarms sounded. Had to jump start it again to take it back to the garage.
In the last 5 weeks it has had 2 new driver side lock assemblies fitted, 1 passenger side fitted (told I had to have them fitted in pairs!). I picked my car up on Friday guss what this time it said EBS fault. The garage was closed so I had to take it away and return the next day. That evening, fob not working, neighbours driven mad by constant alarm sound, jump start to get it going again.
This time they said that they think it will need a new BECM!!! and 2 new locks, the locks will be covered on warranty.

I am fed up with being treated like 'blonde bimbo' when I tried to reason with the mechanic he said ' look its only a car!' and 'are you sure you have the strength to close the bonnet properly'?
Has anyone else heard of having to have the locks replaced x5 and the BECM. Or am I being taken for a ride here but not in my own car? THIS IS GENUINE Please don't think I am 'a bimbo' I have had Landrovers for years, love them but have never had such problems before. THANKS.

I think you are being taken for a ride - there is a sensor (that has probably gone) for the bonnet - they didn't replace this I suppose...

Irish or one of the others will be along soon with some soothing words :smokin:

your being taken for a ride. first thing the bonnet switch is easy just stick a penny on top of it, with super glue, if you still getting flat bat take the one wire plug off your rf box easy job you could do yourself. tell the garage to take a running jump..

oy i is nice guy, and help full if you live anywhere near me i will come and sort your car for you.. i beenn out to help a few people on here..

Thank you to you all for your kind support and suggestions.

Would the Bonnet alarm fault
A, flatten the battery (persumably because the alarms keep going off) and
B, cause the Central locking faults?

If there is anyone out there that could confirm this, I will muster up all my courage and have a chat with the mechanic.

I need to be sure though as we are a bit short of 4x4 mechanics in this area and could do with all the facts.

Thank you all again

R

a good chance your rf is one of your problems, yes bonnet open will set off your alarm. where are you that there is no body that knows what they are doing..j

have you changed the alarm sensor in the car before?( just above the front passenger sealtbelt) what has changing the door locks got to do with the alarm issue? How old is the battery?
as far as i know the central locking is controlled by becm, maybe a scan on the computer might tell you more.

You're being taken for a ride. Door lock assemblies have nothing to do with the bonnet sensor and they most definitely don't need to be fitted in pairs.
Your alarm going off will flatten a battery over time but maybe your battery is on its way out anyway and the alarm going off is just highlighting it.
You don't need a new BeCM. Even if it is a BeCM fault, there are people on here who repair/reprogramme them (Irishrover & Rick The Pick are two).
Whereabouts are you? You need to put your location in your profile.

Right guys (and girls)

Spurred on by your comments I am going to collect my car tomorrow still not fixed after 10 days. If anyone can suggest another garage/ alternative method I will be most grateful.

I am in Norfolk, Nr Kings Lynn, is there anywhere that you could recommend not beginning with the letter 'H' as this is where my Green Goddess is at the moment?

Just for the record, I have phoned to see how the garage has got on (they have had my car on and off since 27th of April, 5th visit!) only to be told that they have had a BeCM delivered, it is for a P38 but not the right one, is that likely?

Thank you all

Range Rovers are not just cars, they are like so many of 'Landyzoners' they get you out of a muddle when you most need it.

first as i said he taking the ****. is your car running? we can run you through the things like rf box easy, you can do this at home in 10 mins. it dont matter if you never picked up a spanner in your life, as for the alarm from the bonnet 1 min job, you only need a two pence pice and super glue. get it home get on here and fox it you know you want to..j

It matters not what colour your hair is, what gender you happen to be, or weather you have access to space age diagnostic equipment or not.
Although i must confess to now thinking of a blonde bimbo modelling our latest MSV-2 diagnostic system seductively on the bonnet of a P38.
whoops, did i actually say that out loud

My apologies, and on to serious business

The fact is your P38 is already telling you exactly whats wrong
I put the key in and it says ALARM TRIGGERED, BONNET

So why the hell is anyone changing a door lock. They may as well give it a wash and brush up and change the rear light bulbs for all the good it will do.
Have you asked them to explain why they changed that.

If they have any kind of diagnostic equipment at all they can use it to tell at a glance what the state is of the bonnet switch input is in real time.

All this talk of wrong BeCM or indeed need of BeCM replacement requirement at all is just total Bull, it ain't just taking the ****, its down right insulting to your obvious intelligence and i strongly suspect you already know that.

i is glad you said that, i been saying from beginning he just taking the ****.[i hate people that just rip people off] rant over..j:eek::blabla::)

I know what you mean j
Especially to such an obvious die Hard LR fan.
you would think they would be better off impressing someone like that and trying to gain trust, reputation and further work.

Go figure.

And the bonnet switch is such a bloody simple thing.

A few weeks back we were working on some software for the Disco 3 Fuel burning heater on my own D3. We needed to see if we could diagnostically wake it up when it was asleep and for that we needed to emulate the bonnet being shut when it was not, so i triggered the catch and we did our tests. Sadly with negative results but we live and learn and that's often the very point of testing.

At the end, an assistant not realizing the catch was closed, tried shutting the bonnet with a few good slams. Later i released the catch with the bonnet pull and physically shut the bonnet, but somehow the switch was knackered and still reported "Bonnet open"
I tried to fix it, but in the end just ordered a new one up at about 5 quid, slapped it in and job done. In the meantime while waiting for it to arrive, i shorted the connector with a paper clip.

I might add that at no time did i consider replacing the drivers door lock

Are yu suggesting that he goes to the garage with a paper clip and says "see - I sorted it for 5p - now go stick your bill" ? and take it home ;)

my p38 is off to main stealer tomorrow due to alarm fault as my alarm fob is transmitting a signal but immboliser aint turnin off an the eka code in door aint doin anything been to 3 garages who didnt have right software to put there diagnostics machine on it so in the end i bit bullet an booked it into main stealer im guessin tomorrow my pockets are gonna be a whole lot lighter unless anyone on here lives near walsall an wants to come to my house an sort it in exchange for a few beer tokens lol

mine has the same problem, ive disconnected rf but still getting the bonnet switch triggered fault. I disconnected the bonnet switch but still getting this fault! I tried putting a paperclip in but then i showed bonnet open all the time? Does anybody have a part number or price for a new switch?
