p38 2.5 dse wont start after new battery

went to my da's 2001 rr last week and battery had stood one cold snap too many,dead as a dodo.put a new one on couple of days later and frigged if it will start turns over but not a kick ,checked all the fuses they are fine.

for some reason when i open the door the screen comes up with ignition key in before i go near the barrel also the remote key wont open the doors now

any help would be gratefully recieved.

Squirt some WD40 in the ignition lock and work the key in and out a few times. The key in switch is stuck. Common fault, should free off with a bit of lube.

lubricate the ignition lock (light oil not wd40).. key fob wont work if car thinks key is in ignition which aslo could be why you got a flat battery in the first place...

start mine wont even lock with that message displayed,put key in and out quickly to remove message+lubricate ing lock ,simples ....dave

maybe coz u locked the doors car thinks it immobilsed

The engine ecu EMS code has corrupted, or your becm has alarmed up due to the battery dying.

Use graphite powder on the ignition.

You need to resync your key fobs for the central locking to work on the button. If the fobs won't resync & the EKA doesn't work then you need some diagnostics.

If the car thinks the key is still in the ignition, it won't respond, fix the obvious fault before you go hunting for problems that may not be there

Bang the underside of the steering column & the inner keyway releases.
