P38 2.5 DSE Auto Airbag Warning Message

I am getting an Airbag Warning message on my display, I have taken apart and cleaned the connections in the steering wheel, drivers footwell, passengers foot well, I cant see any others.

Does anyone have any suggestions, I have tries 3 diagnostic machines, none of them give me any indications as to where it is.

I have used the Nanocom, Mac Tools and Snapon diagnostic machines

There must be more connections

Was going for an MOT today, but had to cancel

There are some cables and connectors under the seats you cant miss the yellow outer, they are normally the first place to look as they get moved by the seat.

Thats what i thought, but I had a good look, only a black plug and a white plug i presume i looking for a yellow one

It may be only later cars with seat airbags

does this car have a passenger seat occupancy detector ?this is a 98 car, does not look like it has seat air bags

there is a yellow sleve going under the center console, i presume that is going to the airbag ecu

Are both bulbs in the binnacle working and seated correctly? Mine had issues where the contact to the board needed a clean up. Had to clear it with Nanocom and cycle ignition to clear the fault too.

I will check both bulbs are working today I’m confused about the term cycle ignition and my nano con won’t read from the ECU on the airbags but I did update my nano come last night

How do you get in the steering wheel?

take the panel off below steering wheel and above pedals there is a connector roughly where steering column goes down just behind metal frame. Right pig to get at. Was the one that gave me problems but once cleaned my light went out

to get to the steering wheel is quite simple, under the steering wheel are 4 No30 torque screws, have to have car running as you can only get to one at a time, then turn steering wheel and unscrew next one, til you unscrewed all 4, then air bag is loose, pull off the two connectors and your done, if you want, unscrew the 4 Xhead screws at the bottom of the cowling and the top cowling and the two sides will come off, impossible to get to the two screws that hold on the bottom as the are right above a metal bar and cant get to them

I took the binnacle off and the lower bulb was dud, replaced with working and tested connection, but my nanocom will not read the airbag faults keeps coming up that it cant read the ECU, so I am thinking the ECU is up the spout ?

Some ECUs work ignition off, some in position 2 and some engine running. Occasionally it is worth giving the OBD port a good squirt of contact cleaner and putting the plug in and out a few times (ignition off and preferably Nanocom unplugged). If the OBD plug is green you might have to clean it up a bit and deal with the leak from your pollen filter.

And check the condition of the plug's backside.

Replaced the ECU with a known good one from another car, still wont read it, will try ignition off and car started another day spent all day on this tracing wires, cleaning plugs, now its time for a Gin

Has it got a air bag on the passenger side above the glove box I’ve so check that connector
