Hi Anyone
Im new to this forum - first post. I have owned 4 landys 3 defender 110s and a series 2 LWB over the years. I am planning (dreaming) of an overland in Africa where my Defender 110 V8 currently resides. I had a 300Tdi 110 as an ideal vehicle until Boris resurrected the LEZ - the vehicle is non-compliant and would cost £££££ for me to leave home. So the choices seem to be Disco 1 or series pre 1973 with a rebuild, Tdi engine etc to evade the LEZ cameras, and not be filled with gizmos that could not be fixed in deepest darkest Africa. Im just not familiar with Disco/Defender differences that could swing the argument. Also what about the 90 & a Sankey trailer anyone any experience of problems in sand etc?
Please someone save me wasting more time trying to get these answers!

basically defender and disco are very similar vehicles with different bodies, biggest problem with disco is body rot especially underneathe whereas series or defender are more easily repairable or renewed galv chassis available .if you could find a good discovery with 200 0r 300 tdi then you do have a good useable vehicle easily added to for adventure trips ,whereas your going to have to spend a bit to series redone but done properly a vehicle for years to come

I am led to believe that an Opel Kadett is an ideal vehicle for crossing Africa. There might be a very short gent living in the Cotswolds with one for sale.
