Ran into a small bit of bother yesterday on a run across to my sisters.

Can't really blame the landie - it was, well for Scotland anyway, stunningly hot (76f) and there was an incident on the forth road bridge which meant we had spent about 45 minutes crawling towards it.

On the baking motorway the temp needle was getting very close to the red mark, and we were venting some steam - presumably from the small pipe outlet on the radiator cap.

To be honest, considering that it's an original sized radiator that's cooling a 4-ltr perkins it's done very well - this is the only heating issue I've had in 5 months ownership - and that was in exceptional heat.

So time to fit a fan methinks. I'm not convinced there is enough room between the big lump and the rad for a mechanical fan, so it will need to go in front of the radiator. Anyone done this (yes I did search!) with an electric fan?

Are these Kenlowe jobbies any cop, they seem a tad fecking pricy to say the least.

I just want to wire up as big a fan as possible onto a manual switch which I can turn on in traffic if need-be.

There is plenty of space between the radiator and the front panel.

I have fitted an electric fan to my 2.25p for of extra cooling (well, I run without the viscous fan unless in hot hot places or there are issues!). Personally I would not bother getting a Kenlowe fan - yeah they are good, but you can pick something up from a scrap yard which will do the job just as well for a fiver or whatever (I found mine at the side of a road!). Just take a battery with you and find a fan from a truck or large car etc which flows the most air.

I use a Kenlowe thermostat and have an over-ride switch. You could of course retro fit another thermostat or have it switchable instead.

Cheers Rusty, that's exactly what I was hoping to be able to do. I'll visit the local breakers tomorrow,

Ta.

Mk 2 Astra fan fits really well, just a bit of cutting around with the plastic framework and it fits really well.

Cheers Spyderman, will look for one of those first tomorrow, as lazyness won over today. :)

MK2 Astras rock btw. I have had a few....I would say go for something beefier...they flow a decent amount of air but nothing compared to the ones I have found!
