On the rad itself. I put a brand new rad on with a fan zip tied to it. It burst at least ten fins.
Had to temporarily fix them with superglue and baking soda. Having said that it’s still holding after about five years.
The cheap fan I got didn’t have a gasket to protect the fins and I ran out of bothered attempting a bracket, so I used the supplied zippy things.
Sorted!

To be fair to it ran it down to London from Norfolk last night at 60-65 (my poor overdrive…) and with the heater on (in my genius I decided to remove the door top in wales whilst leaving the studs in situ) and it struggled to reach full operating temp!

Fair bit cooler now.
But the temperature of the engine should still hold steady.
I reckon you have a thermostat problem,despite new thermostat.
Modern wax stats are pretty poor, there are lots that don't work out of the box.

I do wonder about that - had to slow it down to get it to warm up fully. I’ve got a new one I’ll switch in my other one to see if that makes a difference - I the thermostat seems to not be overly ‘responsive’ to big changes in speed/temp etc. Possibly a combination of that plus the rad.
