Got a 2003 TD4 Auto , theres a hose which is obviuosly an overflow but from where/what?? it drips only in the warmer weather never in winter .
I've read about and think its to do with the aircon but we do not use the aircon in the car (never have or will to keep fuel for actual driving ).
Checked the engine coolant level too which hasnt changed .

any ideas please ty??

will be air con condensate drain hose, just drips down.

when you select "windscreen" on the vent control, the air con automatically comes on.

tis nowt to worry about. If you really are concerned, dip your finger in the small puddle and carefully taste it on the tip of your tongue (have a glass of water to rinse with if your squeamish). If it has no taste, then it's condensate. If it's really sweet, its coolant or screenwash.

Is that hose located where the two arrows are pointing at ?? If yes, it's indeed the drainpipe of the aircon.
(By the time I had this loaded two more entries done on this....)

Right sorry for my simples wording i aint too clued on all parts but try my best to describe . It looks same as hose in pic above and is below windscreen under the bonnet (obvioulsy lol) and directly below some long tube like part that runs just about whole width , it looks like steering .
It is really sounding like it is the air con condense thing as we do use the heater on the windscreen blower position so reckons thats wot it is
thanks for replies folks

By the way, the affect of the air con on your power or economy is really negligible, probably less than 5% at the absolute most. Compared with the lossy auto box which is probably eating 20% of your fuel it's really not worth worrying about. It is good practice to turn it in for 10 mins at least once a month to ensure it's seals don't run dry and cause you more issues in the future.

Not sure about Freelanders but on many cars now days the air con compressor does not have a clutch and runs constantly (my previous 2001 MB for example) so problems with compressor seals passing due to lack of use should no longer be a problem.

Yes MB's have very sophisticated corrosion problems that's why I changed back to Land Rover, just as many problems just different ones (saves me becoming bored).

That's true! I've always thought more than one coat of paint on the inside of the wheel arch would be a good idea for rust prevention.

Ahh but that autobox is well worth the extra 20% not to mention no dmf or clutch woes as long as it stays reliable itself of course.

My previous car was a MB 190E 2.0l, had it for 13 years and did +200.000 kms with it, not one spot of rust though and the only problem I've had with it was the tap to close off the heating in the summer, not one bad word on MB from my side, was afraid in the beginning I was going to walk into a lot of problems with the Hippo, seen the comments you could read, but all by all the TD4 is a very positive experience. All the dreadful stories one could hear about were concerning the early 1.8l petrol engines. As far as I'm concerned the Hippo is the most agreeable car to drive I've ever had (and driving cars on a daily basis for the last 51 years now), also my wife said it was the finest car to drive we've had.

The 190 was a fine car, especially the cosworth version. It was the later c class and e class of the mid to late 90s that weren't quite so rust proof! I looked at a couple of e class estates when I was looking for my fl. Forums said to check for rust on the front wings, tops of the doors under the seals and tailgates. Sure enough, each one I looked at had quite bad rust in all those places and in one case rotten door frames! They've sorted it out again now buy they definitely went through a period where bean counting became more important than build quality which is a shame given the whole brand success is built on quality.

When I traded the MB for the Freelander the first thing the dealer checked for was rust, rear wheel arches bottom of all the doors and front of bonnet by grill, told me perfectly normal then gave me a rubbish price (no one was interested in a private sale due to the poor fuel consumption and the extensive corrosion) but by then I had fallen for the Freelander:)
