Freelander 1 Need to change my Car.

Hi all, I hope I"m not breaking any rules doing this but I do need to change my 2003 Freelander TD4 Auto for a newer one. I have looked and test driven a couple of Mark 2 but am not keen on them so I want to stick with a newer Mark 1 but it has to be top notch. Leather heated seats, Cruise Control, Heated screen etc etc If you take my car in p/x I will pay top dollar for yours.
Mine. 2003 Freelander Serengeti, Automatic in Black Nearly new tyres, MOT October 2023, loads of history and all old MOTs, runs well but has a few niggly faults mostly to do with the Central locking which does work.
Live near Southampton in New Forest..

Out of interest, what don't you like about the Freelander 2?
I've recently bought a Freelander 2 i6 HSE, which I plan to sell on once I've sorted out my TD4 SE engine.
The FL2 is arguably a much better vehicle than the FL1, and is much newer too. You have to remember that even the newest FL1 will be 17 years old now, and those after 55 plate could well be £630 per year in RFL too.

I will be honest I was also not overly impressed with the 2

One we took out was a 2013 gs not best equipped and the drive was not what I expected of a sub 100k Land Rover
Nosier and rolling around more that my own? Not sure if this is the norm or just found a bad one

There was something wrong with it.
The FL2 should roll in corners much less than the FL1, and it's definitely much quieter too, like ½ the sound level at 70. The only noise mine makes at 70 is a small amount of tyre noise and a slight wind noise from the joints in the sunroof. There is no driveline noise and minimal engine noise at motorway speeds.

The boot is about 30% larger by volume, but it is higher off the ground, making it seem lower, but if you measure, there isn't much difference, also the boot is wider and deeper than the FL1.

It’s a minefield especially in Cumbria basically all have had a hard life and the fact it’s a full day to get anywhere to view that’s had a better life is not helpful
The noise sounds like a wheel bearing but all 4 if that makes sense so definitely a problem?

the boot was a surprise as well I wasn’t impressed and I think it’s a deal breaker for us personally . Just glad my old one is on its best behaviour long may that last

Hi all, I suppose the reason I don"t particularly like the FL2 is I"ve had numerous FL1s and touch wood none of them have ever really let me down, so it must be an age thing. By the way Nodge what sort of price will you be looking for should I change my view and buy a FL2?

I don't know an exact price yet, as I'm going to do some painting on the front bumper corners, and a small scuff on a rear door, and fully service it.
But I expect it'll go up for £3,500, or there abouts. She's a lovely colour (Tonga green) and being HSE spec, is fully loaded with toys.

Forgot to ask. Is it Auto or Manual because I really want an Automatic so my Wife can drive it.

It's an automatic.

The 2007 GS FL2 I had after my FL1 2003 was night and day. Massive improvement in comfort and noise all round. Cruising at 70 on a motorway wasn't stressing it at all, and it was always ready to give more. So it's definitely worth taking a look at another one. I'm not really sure a 2006 FL2 is that much of a leap forward from a 2003 model, unless its a top spec model that has low mileage and been very well looked after. At least you know the history with your current one, if it already does the job you want.

A few years after selling the FL2 I went back to a 2003 3-door FL1 as my second vehicle, (largely due to this forum, showing it seemed quite straightforward to maintain for most DIY jobs). But there is something I like about these older pre-millennium hippos.

The paint is Tonga green, the interior is Napoli heated electric leather seats in Alpaca (a light beige) colour with 3 memory positions. It's in pretty good condition, although there is damaged on a rear headrest, and a corner at the back of the rear seat has got had damaged by something beige loaded at some point, but otherwise the interior is pretty good, but they do hold up well.

It has cruise control, heated front screen, heated memory power fold mirrors, 14 speaker surround sound audio system, sat nav (although there is a line on the screen), climate control, sunroof, auto wipers and headlamps, and an auto dipping rear view mirror and a plethora of interior lights in the footwells, mirror bottoms and door bottoms.

That sounds pretty good to me, but will I be able to buy it with my Budget. You could always have my 2003 Serengeti Automatic in Black with MOT October(All old MOTs) Newish tyres and loads of history. £1000 in p/x would clinch it.

It's a lot of car for £3500. Unfortunately I'm not interested in a P/X.

Okay I"ll advertise my car locally. The Auto mark 1 are like rocking horse sh.. so it should sell easily. So what can you tell me about your car. MOT, Service etc etc and more to the point a rough idea of when will it be available?

It'll have a long MOT when I sell it, as it's out next month.
I'm already a good way to getting all service items up to date.
Oil and filter and gearbox fluid have been done.
The rear diff, Haldex and PTU fluid changes are in the pipeline.
The interior is clean, but will get another going over. There a couple of car park scrapes on the bumpers to paint, along with a small scuff on the lower LH rear door, otherwise the body has just normal usage marks.
I've got to source 2 new tyres, as they are at 2mm, and the wheels could do with a refurbish, but I planned to leave that for the next owner to sort.

It's got its service book stamped, but there's no other paperwork except the owners handbook.
I've got to sort a second key too, as it's only got the 1 at the moment.
On the whole it's a nice vehicle, and quite a rare model, so they hold the money.

Yes sounds alright but I will keep my options open. I would really like to find one closer to where I live.
