Overdid it a bit? 300tdi conked out on motorway

Hello, Do I put this down to a one-off?
I took the old girl on a 200 mile round trip yesterday, first leg fine and very impressive 65-70mph without any bits falling off. After my hearing had recovered I set out on my return.
The grin was a mile-wide as I was overtaking lots of micra's, milk-floats etc, and proceeded to unchartered territory of outside lane on the motorway...doing approx 75mph when a sudden loss of power (no lights came on), and the uh-oh moment while battling to the hard shoulder, then all of a sudden power returned, and the 25 miles remaining was absolutely fine (although I took it a bit more gently).
I will check fuel filter in a bit - but any other tips to look at while I'm at it?

Lift pump? A mates chipper has these symptoms. Will be absolutely fine then almost stalls then picks back up and is great again.

Thanks Rob, I'm not 100% how to check the lift pump, but found a thread and will try that.

just slacken front banjo bolt on the injection pump,you should have plenty of fuel without air when pumps worked

Doubt it will be lift pump, mine had gone on my 300 disco and it was just a bit hesitant when accelerating hard, they only cost about £30 though!

I'd say one off! i comfortably "cruise" at 70-75 on motorway all the time for long journeys. Deafening and consumption of fuel is the only problems in the 300tdi on the motorway!

Check the connection where the 12v feed connects to the stop solenoid on your injection pump. If the wire is broken or the connection is loose, it will intermittently break the circuit forcing the stop solenoid to close, ultimately cutting all fuel to your engine.

That's what mine was

Thank you very much everybody. I've tinkered a bit until hands were too numb to do much else. A quick whizz showed no re-occurence. Will see if it happens on a longer/faster run.

Mines done that before, on the Manchester ring road, bit scary trying to get off the hard shoulder and up to speed again

I wired the fuel pump to the interior light switch, problem solved and nice security feature!

You obviously arent into longevity of the vehicle , Got another parked up ready to use ?
