The Chairman of Nanjing Automobile Corp, Yu Jianwei, has confirmed that they
will employ approx 200 workers at Longbridge to make 12,000 MG TF
convertible sports cars per annum. They have already signed a 33 year lease
on half the old factory and re-hired 57 workers. The first cars are expected
to roll off the line in late 2007. Lotus have already been given the job of
altering the K-series engine to comply with Euro4 emissions but that may not
be their only brief with regard to this car.
He has also said that the Oklahoma factory to build a TF coupe is "just a
thought" and would be independent.
To bring it back on topic, interesting that Land Rover are pledged to make
all their vehicles carbon neutral during build and over the first 3 years or
45,000 miles provided their customers will pay, as it's going to be on the
options list at between £85 to £165. You get a window sticker, presumably to
ward off those Greenpeace folk.
