Original Freelander Radio information needed please

Hi All

Please excuse my lack of knowledge )

I am brand new to Freelanders, having bought one a couple of months ago for the first time from a farm.

I was wondering if anyone could confirm for me, what was the original radio fitted into a 2001, 1.8, 3 door freelander? The one I have has had the radio changed (to one I can't get on with and with terrible reception) and I would like to buy an original to install in the car.

I've seen a model called R770 - would that be the correct one? - Unfortunately the car came with little in the way of paperwork (other than the legal stuff) and I haven't been able to confirm over the Web up to now.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Not sure what my model number is for my 2001 it is a radio and cassette with cd multichanger under passenger seat though.

Had a look on fleebay mine looks like a Type No: 22DC597/60R, RG Part No: XQD 101730PMA but guess it depends on whether you have a multichanger.

Hi Flathead,

Thanks for your reply - wasn't intending to have a multichanger, just going for the old original radio really. Had a look at the one you have, but it seems a bit different from the one I've seen advertised.

I'll see if any local garages might know around here.

Have you peeked under the front passenger seat to see if a multichanger is hiding there ?

No such luck I'm afraid - I know there's nothing there as I had to clean it all out as it was a bit of a state when i got it.

Remal, I've got a 2003 1.8 It had a radio cd fitted. I might still have it in the garage if you were interested.

I wouldn't waste your money on one, we had a 2001 Freelander from new and the standard radio cassette player was rubbish. We soon replaced it with a better one. Far better replacing with one you like after trying it out.

Yep you could get a decent iPod, cd and Bluetooth headunit from halfords for £100 old ones sounded crap also lol

Don't mean to hijack, but I'm also looking for an original radio to replace the crapola Kenwood one in the Freelander I've just bought. I'd be very interested if you find it in your garage, and the original poster doesn't take you up...

I had an x plate GS. It had a Phillips R770 and CD under passenger seat. Hope this helps.

trouble with the original radios fitted, they all need the led clock in the dash to work, i want to put the original back in mine but there is no way i can key in the code because the led is non existent

Sorry to drag this thread back up. I've read of folk adapting old radio cassettes to enable Bluetooth. Does anyone know if it's been done to the R770?
The reason I ask is because of the clock/display, plus the controls on the steering wheel.

It would be easier to fit a replacement head unit. The clock will still show the time without the HU feeding station data. The wheel controls just need an adaptor to make them work, providing you get a HU that accepts wheel controls. I find Sony HUs good value and very well specked
