Some of you may have read that my old Defender 90 was nicked at the end of January (since been recovered). I spoke with a DC in charge of the case today as it's now confirmed to be part of a larger investigation. Several Land Rovers have apparently been stolen in recent months, the locations of the thefts were County Durham, Tyne and Wear and surrounding areas. It appears that an organised group is targeting Land Rovers currently throughout the North East. Now I know they get nicked a lot but the discussion was based around several being nicked within a relatively short time frame and within the North East specifically.
A partial print and some other trace was recovered from my LR and CSI will be here tomorrow to dna tape 3 tools I found in my LR after its recovery that don't belong to me. Fingers crossed that will produce something that will bring them nearer to catching this lot.
So, just a heads up that organised LR thefts are taking place in the North East at the moment, in numbers sufficient to warrant its own investigation, so check your security and keep your eyes peeled.

I would love to know if it's the same people that nicked mine the first time round (or the second!!) Can't for the life of me remember the policeman's name though… or the name of the people that went to court.

I got stopped last night by the police, said they were doing routine check on defenders, making sure the person driving it owns/is insured to drive the vehicle they're in :)

At least they're doing something!

Good stuff. I've been stopped late at night by South Yorks police and asked to produce keys and ID twice in the last year.

I never complain and ask them to stop the vehicle everytime they see it.

After my last landy was stolen and recovered i was stopped a few times, in Yorkshire and up here… This is the first time in the new one… but i'd rather be stopped and know they are doing spot checks :)

Still get that slight pang of fear though… what have i dooonnneeee????!!!:lol:
