Onboard diagnostics for my 300 v8?

Hi all, as the title suggests, is there a diagnostics (nanocom, hawkeye etc) available for my 1996 3.9 V8 efi? I heard one was coming out but that was all i heard. Cheers.

Why do you want/need one? There's not that much gadgetry to look at on an older V8.

As ratty above, thats all you will be able to do with a 3.9 "look"... LR dealers use Testbook to look at the engine and abs ecu's and 'force a few functions' but thats about it.

Nothing like a D2 where you can even alter the door lock operation etc etc....

yeah, i wanted to look at the engine and ABS ECUs. The closest testbook that i know of is shrewbury which means finding a free day and paying for fuel and then paying a fee for it to be hooked up and looked at once. I thought that if i could buy a diagnostics/even use a laptop with the right software and plug and use it as many times as i want, i could also help out mates and save em some money if needs be.

My ABS has always gave me jip and to be honest ive really struggled with it from day one, ive bridged the diagnostics socket to get the blink code but low and behold there was no fault corresponding to the codes that blinked out. i would also like to see what faults if any have been found on both ECUs and try to rectify them. I didnt know you couldnt bugger around like you can on the TD5 (im just getting my head round electronics and ECUs etc).

sooooooo, back to the question............ is there a home diagnostics kit available for my V8 or will i have to go to shrewsbury?

Have a look at the pdf brochure on Bearmach. com for Hawkeye . The release 2 has had more applications added including the Disco 1 under upgrades 3 and 4 . Make sure it is the latest pdf you look at as there are a few websites with the old out of date info

What Blink codes did you get with your ABS , I have quite a few print outs from various sources some are contain more codes than others , I think I have a list of them all starting at 1-1 and going through all the numbers to 6-15 . Regards Jonathan

Hi, so what your saying is for the price of it, and for what I could do with it, basically its not worth me getting one. Thats cool, looks like i'll have to bite the bullet, take a day off, fill her up and off to shrewsbury i go.........when i get the chance.
