Hi guys,I'm an old member coming back hopefully,I used to own a 2000 p38 4.6 vogue which was kitted up with hugh wheels, tinted windows, tvs, plystations the lot, hence the username lol, then I purchased a dare I say it a 2007 dodge nitro, now that has been badly vandalised so,
I am now looking at purchasing a discovery 3 2005 2.7 v6 hse, although its done 120k miles it one owner full history.
I have heard good and bad reports so I'm asking you guys.
I will be towing a 1500kg caravan quite often with it.

Thanks in advance
Gav

Disposable toy,if you have deep pockets and dont mind it being in the garage on a regular basis,go ahead. At that age/mileage there are plenty of things ready to fall apart, few are low cost repairs.LR seem to have gone far away from the idea of a 4wd that is field fixable for a sensible sum.

Absolutely love my 3 so far. I got a twin axel caravan & I'm not joking it tows it like there is a carrier bag on the hitch. As for reliability on the diesel I don't know, as I have the 4.4 v8. But everything else on the disco apart from the engine is the same. I think it's a case of as said above, you either get a good one or a dog. I also think that these discoverys cost a lot of cheddar, and if the slightest thing goes wrong, the owner likes to shout about it. Which they have the right to do so as I would too.

How often does the timing belt need to be changed on a 4.4 V8? Also any idea of costs?

Looking at one next week and the seller does not know if the timing belt has been changed (I know), he took as a trade in, so no history. Just want to be forearmed with costs etc.

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I thought all the LR V8's were driven by chains not belts???
