1998 disco 300tdi.oil light keeps coming on and of.the light flickers alot.is it time for the switch/sensor to be changed or is there a pressure problem.hope its just the sensor any ideas.need help.will change sensor at weekend, hope that works.anyone had same problem:doh:thanks.

known issue with sticking oil pressure relief valve, if pressure switch doesn't cure it

theres plenty oil in it haha.:)where is the relief valve you mentioned.is it an easy fix for an amateur like me if it is the problem.i know how to use a hammer not sure what to do with the nails:D.thanks

try changing oil filter first and see if you can borrow an oil pressure gauge, but on the 300tdi it is sump off for pressure relief valve

I'd suggest you don't drive it, it could be a duff sender on oil pressure switch-but until you know it's not worth the risk of a wrecked engine

just thought of another point of interest,i had a bit of trouble with oil leaking from the rocker cover.changed gasket twice and its still leaking.could be that i warped the cover by tightning bolts to much without using torque wrench, bloody amateur.will buy new one soon.anyway, could this leak cause low prssure and thus make the light come on or would the light stay on all the time if the leak was the problem.thanks.

Not sure about the leak but would definately try changing the pressure sensor (above the oil filter) and go from there they are only about £3 and simple to change.

Before you get really into dismantling get a pressure relief switch from your local dealer. Not expensive.
This is a common fault on 300Tdi engines and usually can be fixed with a new switch.
Switch is on engine beside oil filter and can be changed very easily.
There have been numerous threads on this type of fault and all mainly fixed with a new switch.
