Hi guys

First time on here need help!

Got a 57 plate disco 3. Keeps going into limp mode array of faults showing on dash

Had fault code reader on it says

‘Fuel rail/system pressure too low’

Would this be fuel pump or fuel rail sensor or both or should I maybe start by replacing fuel filter?

Any advice much appreciated !

Thanks

Thank you!

And thanks for your reply - yes I’m sure there is fuel it’s being doing this for several weeks

My son suggested I try here - he has a defender

Did take to a Landy specialist fist who used Land Rover diagnostic but couldn’t find any fault codes. Then took to my regular mechanic who used Snap On diagnostic reader which came up the fuel pressure fault

The Land Rover specialist thought on of battery terminals was loose so tightened and it was good again for a few days but then I only can drive about 3 miles before it limps. If I take key out shutdown and re start it’s totalling fine for another few miles!

Bit of a mystery - clearly an electronic issue maybe ecu?

Best

Mike

i would be disappointed that the specialist could not get any codes yet the snap on reader could, does not instill much confidence!
Basically without codes you are literally pisisng in the dark.

If tightening the terminals helped I would start up there first and run through all the large cabling incl any earth leads.

Is it charging? what are the charging volts?

That’s great thanks - yes I’m sure it’s an electrical connection issues - I’ll start from the battery as you suggest. The car drives really well otherwise so doubt it’s actually a fuelling issue - thanks again Mike

There is a multi plug down the back of the battery that corrodes and causes issues, you have to remove the battery for access.
Iirc some of the plastic tray has to come out as well, no wheres near as scary as it sounds.
Get yourself some contact aerosol spray first

I think this is the ecu plug that corrodes, been a long time since I looked at mine.

Hiya

indeed there are 2 x modules behind the battery , first one is the TCM and second the ECM, indeed the pins can corrode

the battery earth is secured to the body behind the fuse box, there’s another earth front drivers side behind the wheel arch liner

does it go into limp mode around 2500 revs plse , if so it may be the turbo actuator arm is sticking , but indeed best to double check all ur connections before hand

shame the garage didn’t give u the actual fault codes instead of a description

plus as a side note being a 2007 has the oil pump been upgraded to the new model plse , doesn’t have any bearing on the issue but best to check

Enclosed some pics of those earth points , plus do u have a multimeter plse as can talk u through a few canbus tests

hope that helps

Also talking of diagnostics , these Autel AP200 in white are reported to be a good basic reader

Amazon product

  • 【Points for Attention】1️⃣ This code reader is only suitable for exclusive MaxiAP200 App. Whatever you own an Android or iOS device, free download and update (in App Store/Google Play) are available for lifetime. 2️⃣Android users please pair Bluetooth in App rather than in the setting of mobile devices . (IOS users, go to Settings > Bluetooth. )3️⃣ MaxiAP200 is warranted for 12 months against defects in materials and workmanship.

Thanks again

No luck with connections - still going into limp mode

Yes I have heard about turbo actuator sticking so that is my next line of attack!

Cheers

In that case would Personally get ur own code reader , maybe something like the Autel AP200 ( white ) , it also does live data which is also very useful

have u cleaned ur Map sensor plse , assume ur EGRs haven’t been blanked

alas I had a right nightmare when mine went into limp mode around 2,500 revs , I replaced all my intercooler hoses and freed off my turbo actuator , also found air leaks on the throttle body but that was after using my gap iid to diagnose the errors, but took me a good while having to go through everything , testing so many modules, looms etc along the way

forgot To add , there are other earth connection points that the ECM and TCM use but believe these were moved after 2007 , but at the end of the day u could keep going round the vehicle to the end of days along with driving urself nuts without some form of diagnostics

if u do look at the turbo actuator where the horizontal hose joins onto the turbo see if there’s any oil there , if there is the clip might just be loose or broke , plus when turning the key off the actuator arm should move back and forth , easier if someone sits in the drivers seat to turn the key on and off

hope that Helps , plse let us know how u get on

@Badspanners whereabouts are you in the country? Might be a forum member nearby with diagnostics to get proper codes for you. Must agree with above, anything Disco 2 and newer you really need some kind of LR specific code reader

Thanks again guys!

Sounds very technical - I’ll wait til my son gets home he’s got a defender and will understand this better than me!

I’m in Nantwich, South Cheshire

I’m going to try another diagnostic guy tomorrow for third opinion!!
