oil in ecu socket

just found ive got oil running down the loom into the red socket on the ecu. any idea how to stop it with out ripping the old loom out

Yes. Remove the oil from the engine.:D:D:D

If you don't like that idea then you gotta change the injector loom under the rocker cover and flush the rest of the injetor loom out until it's clean.

I got the oil out by soaking the sockets in heptane. I buy it from the paintshop. Heptane is very good as degreaser and dry out very fast. after I cleaned the injector loom and the socket close to it I sealed all cables with blue permatex.

Heptane is also the best fuel for the torches when you are eating fire:mad2::brushteeth:

Did you change the loom under the rocker cover? The oil gets past a faulty grommet.

cleaned it and sealed it. The sockets on the injectors have a rubber seal, when that is exposed to engine oil it get swollen and doesnt fit very good. then the oil is creaping in to the cable and away.

The good thing with heptane is when you have a rubberseal that is swollen by oil and doesnt fit, you just let it soak in heptane for awhile and then let it dry. And guess what? It returns to its original shape. Heptane dilutes the oil and it all evaporates.

This was the tip of the day.

Use it all the time. right now my hand and tongue has 1st degree burns because I just had a show at my daugters school.

The oil also wicks down INSIDE the copper wire strands once it gets really bad. Peeling back the outer loom insulation for an inch will stop any more oil from travelling along the outside of the wires.
Change the injector loom under the rocker cover and seal the new one with clear silicone. Should put a stop to any further wicking but you will still have to deal with the oil already inside the main ECU loom.

I would do as you have been previously advised!
But the best thing i have done is to make a small loom about 8" in length which goes from ecu to red male on the loom.

Made from old loom & connector from old ECU off a scrapper cost nothing but the main thing that you have to do is resin in the terminals in at one end so the oil cannot do the damage hey presto done!

ok changed the injection harness and cleaned the red socket. but still have a problem. what the motor does is at 50-70mph ill get almost a misfire engine runs rough then dies. turn the key off and on and its fine. put this down to the oil in the socket but its not the case. any ideas

Yeah I know what you're saying but I've seen it twice with my own peepers. The oil had contaminated the ECU connector on the inside of the casing and also the PCB. I used brake cleaner and compressed air to clean it up and on both occssions it solved a misfire.

Cleaning might cure-but it will come back.Depends how much you want to spend.
You can remove the loom with the ecu plugs on it & flush through with meths-however a lot of work getting it off & it might not work. It may have fubarred your ecu too, as it did with mine; new modified engine loom & ecu repaired...

& this link for the loom.Theyre the only people I found who did a loom apart from LR.

I would still go for cleaning the sockets with heptane. Brakecleaner is usually the same thing. As I live in sweden I had to google for a while to find the english name for it. You can find it as white gas, white gazoline or pure benzin.
Put some in a jar and submerge the sockets for a while and then let them dry. The benzin will wick into the cable and dilute the oil.
Meth is by far not as good for cleaning out the oil from inside the cable.

thanks, bye the way i use silicone spray, best thing for electrics as it doesnt affect them in any way. after speaking to the guy at td5 alive who was great considering i wasnt buying anything he suggested i put it on testbook, which ive now done. thing is that throws up unrelated fault of the air flow sensor. which they said might be the sensor or a pipe collapsing. so ive now got to take all the pipes off and inspect the insides

pulled the pipes off. all look ok. found a video on how to test the sensors but i dont have a thaco to read it so i guess ill just have to change it and see what happens
