Hi. I am sure this has come up before, but i need a bit of help here.
I want to purchase a diagnostic tool for my Freelander 1 V6 Year 2000 Model.
I have looked at the Hawkeye and it is quite expensive and from what i understand only works on Land Rover.
Are there any other Diagnostic Tools Code readers that will work on my landrover and still be able to use on other vehicle makes? If so please can you suggest make and model as well as price.
I live in Zimbabwe and out here they want to charge me USD $ 200-00 just to read the codes.

You can get simple obd2 code readers off ebay from around £20. A Hawkeye should work as Freelander is a land Rover ;)

Thanks all. Will have a look at Autel Maxiscan. The hawkeye is great just for the landrover.
I have a small workshop so if i get a diagnostic code reader i need something that will work on most marques.

Hawkeye is not just an EOBD fault code reader ! it will read all the engine diagnostic code and codes from other moduels too ! An EOBD reader only reads emissions related fault codes only and is pretty worthless.

It depends what you're doing with it and what type you have! I've got a launch eobd reader, it does live data and graphing. For what it is it works really well and works on all eobd vehicles it obviously only does engine tho, plus its not only emissions related faults! The reason it was standardised was that any muppet could plug in to check the emissions systems working, but that's not all it does! Having used main dealer equipment for many years a simple diagnostic tool like my launch is very simple and quick to use and is often all you need! If you want to do airbag abs etc then yes you'll need something along the lines of the hawkeye!

You could also try scangauge 2 as it reads codes and clears them as well as displaying data provided by the vehicles sensors. It can be transferred to other vehicles easily not sure what it's limitations are on providing the codes for the vehicle it's attached to but this device was suggested for my Mitsubishi Colt
Hope this helps

Paul
