you should know then state off shells can be somewhat guarrenteed by checking oil pressure speed of rise as well as pressure using temp to ,and that rocker removal wasnt necessary:)
 
hi guys
The sumps off as is the oil pump / strainer but i cant seem to remove the ladder frame i can get a scraper between the surfaces and have removed all the bolts that appear to hold it -
Is there something im missing ??????
any advice greatly appreciated as bottom ends are all new to me !!!

just the four lower box bolts iirc defenders do have to have box out as they are allen bolts in flywheel housing but is along time since i did one in vehicle
 
Well it wasent the big end shells as ive just completed the task & it sounds no better !!
im guessing a cracked piston or dropped valve, couple of questions ???
1. whats the chance (if a valve has dropped) of the piston being ok ??
2. if the piston is cracked could it just be replaced ??
3. i guess its becoming obvious that i dont want to buy a new engine !
I would rather put a head on it if poss as its now got nice new big end bearings !
please someone say theres some light at the end of this extremely dark tunnel

sounds a lot more terminal than an injector, how would an injector make it sound that ill ?
im not arguing just want to know how it would cause that ?
 
TBH im not surprised its not sorted it as i thought from the beginning it sounded valve related but my mechanic friend assured me it was big ends !
 
first time ive heard video ,but noise doesnt sound engine speed as you get with journals more 1/2 like valve train ,gasket blowing to outside,valve bent and sometimes just split in exhaust gasket
