I have an interest in a workshop here in Portugal although I actually make chocolate for a living...my mate is a time served diagnostic tech and we don't charge anything till the fault is fixed either but the bill clocks up at 50€ per hour while we sort it...there is an awfull lot of money tied up in equipment in the workshop and upgrading the diag computer every year is not cheap...so I can't understand how your getting it for free?...
Because he is a nice, genuine guy, he knows he will get all of my business from here on and most importantly my banter in person is top notch

He should be paying ME

First of all mate thank you for your help here, I know this issue has been asked loads of times but I've read every thread and couldn't get an answer

No clicking at all at the relay and thats on 2 different fuse boxes I've tried now, so would that indicate (excuse the pun) a problem further back and if so what is the next piece back?

As for the split wires being central locking I think you are onto something as the key I was given had this fob attached to it and was going to be another thread I started!

That key is bent ...

Haha your business will bankrupt him you can't live on banter...lol
Oh yes you can!

Jurassic park!

I'm not wet behind the ears, I'm a forums regular and I know the different characters on here

For someone to say "you expect everything on a plate", well yeah, as I have said several times my brain isnt wired properly (much like my idm) for things like this so I need help rather than being told things in riddles which I don't see the point in!

One last post on this thread from me.
Millertime, you know very well that I have gone to a lot of time and trouble to try and help you. My posts have been by far the longest and this takes effort and shows I really want to help you, I guess I am just shocked that a guy with so little ability to get hands on with an old Land Rover, actually goes ahead and buys one. Most of us on this forum do as much of our own work as we can and come here for help when really stuck. You talk about "people with more money than sense". Well I think a majority of people on this forum buy old land Rovers because they are relatively cheap and they work on them themselves because they don't have a lot of money to throw at garages. You seem to breaking that mould so forgive me for not realising that, and wording my posts as if you were like the type of people I have mentioned.

I have got a lot of help from different people on here and I have also posted a lot to help others who have problems. So the "want it on a plate" expression was just a sign of my exasperation when I, or we, give you examples of the thing to do, and our advice just seems to not be being followed.
Now we know that you are getting someone else to do the work for you, we all understand. So, I have "worked you out" maybe now you have worked me out, not that that matters much.

Best of luck with it all and no hard feelings.

Well sierra and all...

Update is...

Been with a respected auto electrician for the last 4 weeks...

To cut a long story short, he tested 19? Of the wires that go into the idm and apparently 7 of them weren't carrying a load

He cut into them and found they were corroded

Wired up new wires and hey presto, indicators and hazards!
9 hours at 64 an hour, c600 quid...
Ouch

Shuttle valve is another 200, so 800 in total and I get it back tomorrow

Thank goodness i got the price of the car down from 2000 to 1250!
