Afternoon everyone. Today I brought my first landrover. Got from an auction. Silly me didn’t read the limited description properly. The engine starts fine, fine tuning needed I think but I have no gears. The clutch pedal feels a little low but no gears are being selected. So it now gonna be a little bit of a project. Any ideas where to start with solving the issue?

More information is needed.
What engine type is it? Petrol or diesel?
What year is it?
Does the gear lever feel like it's doing something?
Are the reverse lights coming on?
Are there any noises?
Is it dripping oil?
Does the car make any noises when it is pushed?
Are the propshafts fitted?

Come back with answers to those questions to start with.

Ok..I went back to the car. It’s a 2l diesel 2002. The reverse lights come on when reverse is selected. When selecting a gear this can be done without clutch and it does not stall. When selecting gears it’s does make a rumbling kinda noice, the height the gear slightly more noise. And the prop shaft going to the rear diff is not present.

Just some thoughts.

Does it have the rear pinion on the IRD still or has it been replaced with a blanking plate?

If it has the pinion still and that turns when it is in gear but the car does not move, then I expect the diff in the IRD is fubar or the splines to the passenger side drive shaft have stripped (not so likely I believe). If it does not turn, then its possible its driving gear has been removed, but assuming it hasn't, then it could be a clutch,. gearbox or input splines to the IRD stripped. The IRD splines being stripped is not likely if the props were removed before the no-drive incident took place - but they could have been weakened and ultimately let go later I suppose.

I think there was another thread like this where it turned out to be the clutch.

I'm thinking the splined link through the gearbox has stripped. The only way to test this, as to lift the front RHS, and spin the wheel, while looking at the IRD rear output, assuming its still there.
