Right folks,

Just been to have a look at a vehicle in a field down the road for a friend. The problem is that unless the vehicle is in 'diff lock' then the car won't drive. Now I'm no expert on these newer things, prefer early series 1s and 2s myself, but can you offer some opinion on if I'm right or on the completely wrong track.

Firstly, in diff lock, when driving forward slowly, the rear prop spins at both the transfer box end and also the diff end. So the prop and transfer box are ok? With both rear wheels off the ground, and transmission brake off, you can spin the prop freely, but the wheels don't turn. With the transmission brake on, both rear wheels spin freely and independent of each other. Only thing I can think is a bust diff? It's unlikely that, both half shafts have gone pop, so it must be the rear diff?

Thanks a lot
Tom

Thanks for that, as an aside, in diff lock high, but not in gear, both rear wheels spun freely when they were in the air?

Sorry, my head is tired, so can't think it through logically, but when it is in diff lock, I don't think it should spin?

if you have both rear wheels up both will spin even with handbrake on ,just the other in opposite direction to the one turned, your supposed to jack one wheel up

Thanks James. I did that, jacked up one wheel, turned freely both ways. Then dropped to ground. Jacked up other wheel, same thing, turned freely forward and back. Then jacked both up, and both would turn front and back at the same time, one front one back, they would turn any way you wanted them too with no resistance and even if they were doing opposite things..
