Hi all Im new to the forum living in shropshire and im considering buying a landy
im not sure at the moment whats best as with my price bracket (1500 - 2500)the vehicles i can afford seem to have bad reviews eg 300 disco , gaylander etc

im after advice on buying eg what to look for / issues etc ,also relating to running on bio as im producing my own bio diesel.

i tow a caravan and live fairly rural but at the moment but stick to tarmac for communicate to work , but would be interested in greenlaning if i could find a someone to tag along with ?

the vehicles im looking at are disco 300 non auto (for the bosch pump) ,
gaylander td4 ? a6 quattro 2.5 tdi (sorry if this is not the forum for this)
some people say dont bother with a disco unless your going off road as they are to much to run (but then cheap to repair)

hoping for advice ,

yes mate need an all round vehicle for my main transport to work , tow van etc but trying to weigh up whether to go for a 4x4 car or go for a landy of some variant , dont know whether the gaylander would be better for my needs eg better mpg etc but then if they are more expensive to fix and harder to work on and less reliable then would the disco be better ,

I can handle a spanner for basic jobs and even weld abit ! but not great...
i know the audis are supposed to be great but you cant go near them without a computer !

and the main thing is the bio and which would handle it best
cheers

Disco 1 300 no contest, should be able to get a good one for that money just check for rust, every where, best thing ive ever towed with and should do 30mpg if you drive it sensibly i can get 35mpg out of mine if i drive realy carfully and mines done 226000+ miles. Oh and :welcome2: to looney zone

cheers oldskool
if thats an average mpg its not bad for such a big vehicle , not getting much more on my eclass 300 td crappy rear wheel drive

Don't get me wrong if you drive a bit enthusiasticly they will burn a hole in your pocket but i get from about 25-35mpg depending on if im towing and/or am in a hurry, if you start putting big chunky off road tyres on you will use more fuel anorl. :D

disco all day if your using it for towing as a gaylander has a max towing capacity of 2000kg....the all other coil sprung landrovers have 3500kg

Didn't realize they could pull 2t fook that the doors would fall off when it stretches, correct me if im wrong but they arn't full time 4x4 are they??

Out of curiosity, have you ever come across a freelander that's had the front prop removed?
Front drive shafts? hasn't got a prop like a proper landy :D i havent no but that is probably cos it's the rear drive part that goes tit's up, howerever if the whole system is working it will probably drive through the rear wheels cos it will think the front wheels are slipping possibly.
